Freshmen power 2025 team to victory in annual exhibition contest.
AUSTIN, Texas — Over 150 Texas baseball alumni returned to UFCU Disch-Falk Field Saturday for the annual Alumni Game.
The 2025 Texas Longhorns used some big swings to top the Alumni, 6-3.
The Alumni Team featured MLB standouts Tres Barrera, Kody Clemens, John Curtiss, Bryce Elder, Duke Ellis, David Hamilton, Corey Knebel, Ty Madden and fan favorites like Cincinnati Reds farmhand Trey Faltine and New York Mets prospect Tanner Witt.
A pair of freshmen led the charge for the Longhorns, as rookies Cole Chamberlain and Adrian Rodriguez both launched home runs.
In the second inning, Chamberlain crushed a two-run 404-foot blast to put the varsity team ahead, 2-1. Chamberlain's laser left the bat at 109 mph, sending the more than 5,000 fans onto their feet.
Three frames later, Rodriguez joined the party. Rodriguez rocketed a two-run opposite-field shot of his own to double the tally for Texas.
Later that inning, right fielder Tommy Farmer IV padded the advantage with an RBI double before fellow sophomore Will Gasparino capped off the offense for the Longhorns with a run-scoring single in the seventh.
On the mound, freshman Dylan Volantis set the tone from the first pitch. Volantis pitched three innings and held the Alumni to one unearned run on just two hits.
Junior right-handed Ruger Riojas followed with three dominant frames, highlighted by a strikeout of Hamilton.
Right-handers Aiden Moffett, Jason Flores and Drew Rerick teamed up to toss the final three innings. The trio of arms limited the star-studded Alumni lineup to only one hit the rest of the way.
Prior to the exhibition contest, the Longhorns hosted their annual Fan Appreciation Day. Thousands of fans met the players and coaches, while kids got the opportunity to play catch on the field and take photos with Bevo XV.
Texas begins its inaugural campaign under head coach Jim Schlossnagle on Feb. 14 against Louisville at Globe Life Field, as part of the Shriners Children's College Showdown. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
