No. 14/NR Track and Field’s Nina Ndubuisi wins shot put in New Mexico

Ndubuisi matches her indoor personal best as the No. 2 performer in UT history
ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The No. 14/NR Texas track and field program closed out the New Mexico Collegiate Classic on Saturday and was highlighted by Nina Ndubuisi's win the shot put.
Ndubuisi matched her indoor personal best with a winning throw of 18.08m (59-4). The mark equals the No. 2 mark on the performer list and is the same mark she set at the Albuquerque Convention Center last season. The throw moved her to No. 6 in the NCAA this season. Chrystal Herpin was seventh with her throw of 16.45m (53-11.75).
In men's shot put, Michael Pinones threw for 18.40m (60-4.50) in the shot put to finish fourth. Brandon Schirck threw for 16.66m.
On the track, the women's 4x400-meter relay of Lauren Lewis, Kenondra Davis, Akala Garrett and Ramiah Elliott recorded a season-best time of 3:30.36 that ranks as the fourth-fastest time in the NCAA this season. The time also is a season best for the Horns.
Garrett also recorded a personal best in the 400-meter open with her time of 52.25. It was the second-fastest time of the field. Lewis finished ninth in 53.15 and Elliott was 10th with a PB of 53.16. Holly Okuku (54.53) and Mackenzie Collins (56.29) closed out the Texas competitors.
The men's 400m was led by Logan Popelka who finished ninth in 46.63.
Kendrick Smallwood reached the final of the men's 60-meter hurdles and finished third with a time of 7.70. Texas also saw Carleta Bernard reach the 60-meter finals and finished fifth with a time of 7.31.
Brock Lewis set a personal best in the men's heptathlon after finishing third with 5,386 points. It's a 117-point improvement from his previous best. He ended the competition with his fourth PB in the hep with a time of 8.30 in the 60 hurdles. He later cleared 4.60m in pole vault and ran the 1,000-meter in 2:44.86.
