No. 4 Men’s Golf tied for third after opening day at Pauma Valley Invitational

Maas tied for third individually at 4-under through 36 holes as second-round play was suspended due to darkness.
SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The No. 4 Texas Men's Golf team carded a two-round total of 6-under par 562 (276-286) on Monday to rest in a tie for third place after the opening day of the Pauma Valley Invitational at Pauma Valley Country Club. Second-round play was suspended due to darkness, but the Longhorns were able to complete 36 holes on Monday.
Junior Christiaan Maas fired a two-round total of 4-under 138 (68-70) and is tied for third in the individual standings. He is currently just two strokes off the lead.
In Monday's morning round, Texas counted scores from freshman Daniel Bennett (4-under 67), Maas (3-under 68), junior Luke Potter (1-under 70) and junior Tommy Morrison (even-par 71) to post a team round of 8-under 276. During Monday afternoon's second round, the Longhorns counted scores from Maas (1-under 70), Morrison (1-under 70), Potter (1-over 72) and Bennett (3-over 74) to card a 2-over 286.
No. 7 LSU is currently at 14-under and holds a seven-stroke lead in the team standings following the opening day. No. 5 Oklahoma State is second at 7-under, while Texas and Tennessee are tied for third at 6-under. The 15-team field features six squads in the top 10 and nine in the top 25 of the latest Scoreboard powered by Clippd poll (Mar. 12).
Illinois' Ryan Voois holds the individual lead after the first 36 holes with a 6-under 136 (69-67). Calum Scott of Texas Tech is currently in second at 5-under through 14 holes completed in his second round.
For the Longhorns, Bennett (67-74) and Morrison (71-70) are both at 1-under 141, while Potter is at even-par 142 (70-72) at the completion of their second round of play.
The Pauma Valley Invitational is set to resume second-round play at 9:30 a.m. Central (7:30 a.m. Central) on Tuesday, Mar. 18. Following the conclusion of the second round, the course will be repaired and the final round is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at Noon Central (10 a.m. Pacific).
