Longhorn Nation,
We've got to start this week's Forty Acres Insider with an emphatic LONGHORN WELCOME AND HOOK 'EM HORNS to our new Men's Basketball head coach, Sean Miller. That exciting news came on the heels of a week filled with so many thrills of victories to be proud of. There were NCAA Tourney triumphs, an NCAA Championship third-place finish, top-10 wins across several sports, SEC series victories, dramatic walk-offs, and tons of fun with y'all — the best fans in the land — cheering your hearts out every step of the way. It's that time of year, and what a blast it was hustling from venue to venue and all the while seeing the pride and winning tradition of The University of Texas on full display with each of our teams, AND all of you. Get those horns up folks, it's great to be a Longhorn!

And with Coach Miller's introductory press conference, a PHENOMENAL SCENE AT PRO DAY (with 125 staffers from all 32 NFL teams, including six head coaches and six general managers on hand) on Tuesday, and Monday's Women's Basketball victory, we're launching into the final week of March, so here we go again! This week is a full-on stampede with Coach Schaefer and Women's Basketball headed to Birmingham and the "Sweet 16" to continue their NCAA Tourney run, our resident Longhorn Legend Coach Bowman and our No. 1-ranked Men's Swimming & Diving team taking dead aim on the title out west in Federal Way, Wash., the 97th running of the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays presented by Truist at Mike A. Myers Stadium, and we kicked-off Spring Football on Tuesday, too. Women's Basketball, Baseball, Golf, Rowing, Swimming & Diving, Tennis and Track & Field are all competing in another thrilling week of Texas Sports. Please especially mark your calendar and come join us on Sunday, when Men's Tennis hosts South Carolina (1 p.m. CT) at the Texas Tennis Center where we will celebrate Senior Day for Pierre-Yves Bailly. Buckle up and get ready to cheer on your Horns, let's do this!

But before we move ahead into this week, we've got to reflect on the week that was because there was a whole lot of winning, Longhorn pride & passion with The Eyes of Texas firmly upon us!
We'll start our look back with a magnificent Monday and our top-seeded Women's Basketball team. How 'bout them Longhorns?! WE'RE HEADED BACK TO THE SWEET 16, my friends! Coach Schaefer and our Horns put the pedal to the metal and breezed through their NCAA Tournament First & Second Round games with a 44-point win over William & Mary (105-61) in round one, followed by a 17-point victory over Illinois in the Round of 32 to thrive and advance. Y'all have been packing Moody Center this year and you sure did take it up a notch for the postseason. Even the mid-afternoon tip on Monday didn't deter you, so thank you to all your bosses for accepting my excused absence note so our fans could pack the Mood on a work and school day. It was such a sight to see our homecourt brimming with Longhorns and y'all raising the roof for every hoop, rebound, steal and assist. Your reward was a whole lot of fast-paced and fired up action from one special team. We are so doggone grateful that you've been there cheering them on all the way to the Sweet 16 (for the fourth time in five years, I might add!). Next up, it's a matchup against Tennessee in Birmingham on Saturday (2:30 p.m. CT) broadcast nationally on ABC for all the world to see!

Coach Capitani and Women's Swimming and Diving collected some more hardware over the weekend, RAISING THEIR HORNS HIGH with the third-place team trophy at the NCAA Championships. It's our fifth-straight top-3 finish – our longest streak of women's top-3s at NCAAs since in 30 years (since 1992-95), and it was fueled by a total team effort that included 14 swimmers and divers bringing home All-American honors. Special shoutout to our three individual National Champions who claimed titles in four events: sophomore sensation & two-time champion Julian Cox (500 and 1,650-freestyle), spectacular senior Emma Sticklen (200-butterly), and fab freshman Estudillo Torres (3-meter diving)! And for Emma, it was a three-peat in that event, and she swam the fastest time in collegiate history (1:49.11) in that race to boot!! Now it's the No. 1 ranked men's turn to take to the pool and diving well in quest of the title, so get ready to follow along on all our platforms for that starting Wednesday.

And how about that sensational performance from Coach Schloss and No. 7 Baseball with an impressive series win over No. 2 LSU in our SEC home opener?! After falling in game one Friday, our Horns rolled up their sleeves and got right back to work taking down the Tigers on Saturday and Sunday — SERIES SECURED! WOW was Longhorn Nation here for it as y'all had UFCU Disch-Falk Field absolutely rockin' for all three of those big-time games. It certainly sent a message to our friends in the SEC that we're here and we mean business! We had a chance to take a victory lap Tuesday with a 13-3 run-rule win over Sam Houston, and now it's time to take our show on the road at Missouri this weekend for another showdown with some Tigers. We're 20-3 (5-1 in the SEC) and off and running folks, can't wait to see you again soon at The Disch!

Meanwhile across the street, things were charged up at Red & Charline McCombs Field for Coach White and Softball. Our squad continues to put up the wins, this time rolling through another top 25-ranked foe, Auburn, in a three-game sweep that vaulted us BACK TO NO. 1 IN THE NATION. That makes it back-to-back top-25 series wins to open SEC play and a 5-1 mark in league play. Y'all brought the energy, and our Horns provided the electricity outscoring our visitors from Alabama, 32-9, including a sensational walk-off homer from Katie Stewart for the series securing win on Saturday. And how 'bout that powerful arm of Teagan Kavan owning the circle earning in all three wins?! We put over another win Tuesday night against Stephen F. Austin to move to 32-2 on the year before hitting the road to Starkville to face a third-straight top-25 SEC challenger this weekend at No. 18/19 Mississippi State. We'll be back at McCombs soon enough, so make your plans to join us, these ladies sure are a lot of fun to watch!

What an awesome scene it was at Wright-Whitaker Sports Complex, as y'all showed up and showed out on Friday and Saturday for four great top-20 matchups for Coach Metzger and Beach Volleyball. Our Horns certainly responded with some fantastic Texas Fight in securing victories over three of those ranked foes, including knocking off No. 2 LMU on Saturday. That's five wins over top-20 opponents in our last six matches and we're just getting started folks!

Our GOLF PROGRAMS HAD A WEEK as Coach Ianello and our No. 7 women's team raised the championship trophy at the Betsy Rawls Invitational right here at The University of Texas Golf Club last Tuesday. And kudos to Lauren Kim who made it a Longhorn sweep by capturing the individual title. On the same day out west in San Diego, Christiaan Maas claimed the individual championship and led the men's team to a runner-up finish against a loaded field at the Pauma Valley Invitational. That marked the third-straight tourney a Longhorn had won the individual title, and get this, three DIFFERENT players earned those individual wins. That's amazing! The guys weren't done, as they went right back to work and finished off a dominant 13-stroke victory yesterday over another elite field that included the top three squads in the nation at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational in Palm City, Fla. Freshman sensation Daniel Bennett almost made it a fourth-straight tourney with an individual medalist (and a fourth different Longhorn) with a tie for second individually at 16-under across his three rounds. And how about this? Coach Fields' team vaulted to NUMBER ONE in the nation earlier today in the updated Scoreboard powered by Clippd rankings!
It was a Great Day for Longhorn Golf🤘🏻🏆🏆🏆🤘🏻

Sean Miller announced as Men's Basketball Head Coach
Tuesday was a very special day here at The University of Texas with the formal introduction of Sean Miller as the 27th Head Coach in Texas Men's Basketball program history. And as I said yesterday at the press conference, I need to again give thanks to both Chairman Kevin Eltife and President Jim Davis for their tremendous counsel, support and friendship. They are such key parts in every decision we make, they're people I lean on heavily and together, they help us make AWESOME days like Tuesday happen for Longhorn Nation. And how impressive is Coach Miller?! Thirteen NCAA Tournament appearances and a winning percentage of over 71-percent in 20 seasons as a collegiate head coach at Xavier and Arizona, including FOUR trips to the Elite Eight and EIGHT to the Sweet 16. Coach Miller has produced 27 NBA players in the last 20 years, second only to John Calipari nationally in that time span, including 12 NBA Draft first-round selections and six lottery picks. Since he became a collegiate head coach in 2004, every player Miller coached who has exhausted his eligibility has gone on to graduate – a number that has grown to 56 athletes! You could tell from his remarks at yesterday's press conference how much Sean and his wife, Amy, are excited for this opportunity. The pride and winning tradition of The University of Texas will not be entrusted to the weak or the timid and Coach Miller certainly fits that bill. Longhorn Nation, we've got a guy who has knocked on the door a few times and he is HUNGRY to break through that door right here on the Forty. And I echo his sentiments that we need everybody ALL IN to make this happen. He loves our motto of "what starts here changes the world" and I'm so excited for the future of our Men's Basketball program with Coach Miller doing just that!
a picture perfect day 🤘#HookEm pic.twitter.com/VaZI2FEM4L

Thank You, Coach Rodney Terry
As we did at our press conference Tuesday and statement over the weekend, I'd be remiss if I didn't share it here with all of you, as well. We have nothing but respect and appreciation for Coach Rodney Terry and what he did for our men's basketball program. He did a yeoman's job steadying the ship under difficult conditions with his leadership and work with our student-athletes, especially that challenging first year. Coach Terry penned a heartwarming letter to Longhorn Nation, he is an incredible person who I admire so much and wish the absolute best for in the future. Chairman Eltife said it so well at Tuesday's press conference, "Coach Terry stepped up when we needed him the most and led our team with class, character, and integrity. We will forever be grateful for Coach Terry for all he has done for Longhorn Nation, for the leadership he provided our student-athletes, and we wish him and his family the very best." Thank you, Coach Terry.

The eyes of the NFL were upon Football's Pro Day
Wow, what an awesome scene it was at the Bubble yesterday as it seemed like the entirety of the NFL's personnel evaluators had descended on the 40 Acres. Let me tell you, my friends, the eyes of the National Football League were truly upon us – and what big eyes they were, including six head coaches and six general managers. Our 21 draft hopefuls were certainly seen, and oh, did they ever put on a show. From Quinn spinnin' it, to our guys' showing even more of their blistering speed burnin' up the 40-yard dash, to the strength on the bench, the agility of our big humans movin' around like players half their size, and all the flyin' through air both vertically and horizontally, it was a beautiful sight to behold. Not only that, but it's always one of my favorite events on the calendar because it's a milestone and lifechanging moment for our incredible student-athletes who have given so much to The University of Texas and provided us with so many memories. I mean, when Jahdae Barron said that he was skipping wearing the pro day gear just to be able to wear the Burnt Orange one more time, it pulls on the heartstrings. What could possibly sum up better what this place means to them and what they mean to us? It's all truly a testament to what Coach Sark has built here from the culture that's in place to the level of participation and interest from the scouts – I mean, 125 evaluators representing all 32 teams! It's grown every year he's been here, and it just keeps getting bigger and better. I'm telling you, there's little doubt there will be a Burnt Orange Longhorn party from April 24-26 during the draft! We wish all of them the best as they chase their dreams, and we'll always be cheering them on!

Women's Basketball advances to Sweet 16!
Our ladies are moving on to their 19th Sweet 16 in program history after the 65-48 win over Illinois in the Second Round. Moody Center was rocking with over 9,000 fans on Monday afternoon and we so appreciate your loyal support. The ladies wrapped up an undefeated 17-0 season at Moody this year! Madison Booker notched her 14th 20-point game of the season and Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda came off the bench to notch a career-high 19 points. And we need to give a shoutout to Shay Holle for playing her last collegiate game at home. Shay has played in 168 games for Texas and is the all-time winningest player in program history. We also got word this week that Madison Booker has been named one of four finalists for the Wade Trophy given to the top player in women's college basketball! Rori Harmon passed 700 career assists to become the first player in program history to reach 1,200 points and 700 assists. Now it's on to the Sweet 16 in Birmingham, where we'll see a familiar foe in Tennessee on Saturday (2:30 p.m. CT/ABC). Hope to see many of you in Birmingham!

Baseball beats No. 2 LSU and builds on best start in 20 years!
Coach Schloss and the guys continue to be on quite the run after taking two-of-three against No. 2 LSU over the weekend and run-ruling Sam Houston last night. Our Longhorns are 20-3, which is their best 23-game start since 2005. That 2005 team was quite special and this year is shaping up to be, too! After becoming the first SEC team to record a sweep in the program's first-ever conference road series since 1992, the second SEC weekend on the diamond was one to remember as well. After LSU took the opener, our boys showed plenty of Texas Fight rallying from not one, not two, but THREE multi-run deficits for an 11-7 victory in front of a jam-packed crowd of rowdy Longhorns fans! Center fielder Will Gasparino delivered the game-winning hit with two outs in the seventh, as Texas scored five unanswered runs to even the series. The next day, Max Weiner and his crew dominated one of the best teams in the country, limiting the Tigers to a season-low two runs. The Horns scored in three of the first four frames, with right fielder Max Belyeu driving in four of the six Texas tallies in the 6-2 victory. It marked the Longhorns' first series win over a top-2 team in more than six years. Shoutout to lefty pitcher Dylan Volantis, who was named SEC Freshman of the Week after retiring 14 of the 15 batters he faced, including seven strikeouts. Our guys finished off their five-game homestand in style with a 13-3 run-rule win over Sam Houston on Tuesday night. Texas totaled double-digit runs for the eighth time this year, tallying a season-best 16 hits. Schloss' squad sure came out SWINGING, scoring in each of the final six innings, highlighted by three home runs, including TWO into our fun-frenzied YETI Yard. With the early walk-off win, the guys celebrated with our fans by scaling the fence out there in left field. The Longhorns will look to keep it rolling this weekend, as they hit the road to face Missouri for a three-game set on Friday (6 p.m. CT/SEC Network+), Saturday (4 p.m. CT/SEC Network+) and Sunday (1 p.m. CT/SEC Network).

Softball moves back to No. 1 ranking with 32-2 record
What a five-day span for Coach White and Softball over at Red & Charline McCombs Field! A three-game sweep of No. 23 Auburn over the weekend combined with a five-inning, run-rule victory over Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday night has our Longhorns back atop every major poll. The climb to the top got going on Friday afternoon with 12-2 clubbing of the Tigers in five innings, before late-game heroics from Katie Stewart clinched the series with a 7-5 win on Saturday. Sunday was another offensive display as our Longhorns rolled up double digits in the run column for the third time in SEC play en route to a 13-2, five-inning victory to sweep the weekend slate. The fun didn't stop there, though, as Tuesday provided another run-rule victory for our bunch behind an 11-3 win over Stephen F. Austin. That's now S-I-X-T-E-E-N run-rule victories for our Longhorns in 34 games this season. Talk about having those bats ready for game time! And speaking of bats, very few have done what Reese Atwood has accomplished during her career. Reese has ALREADY set a new program career RBI record before the end of her junior season. By the time her career on the Forty Acres has concluded, she may finish with an RBI total that will be untouchable! This weekend will be another opportunity for her to continue to add to her total as Texas will travel to Starkville for a three-game weekend series at Mississippi State that runs Friday (6 p.m. CT/SEC Network+), Saturday (2 p.m. CT/SEC Network+) and Sunday (1 p.m. CT/SEC Network+).

Women's Swim & Dive takes third at NCAA Championship
Coach Capitani and the Horns finished third at the NCAA Championships last week all the way out in Washington. Wanna talk about consistency? Texas has now placed among the top-three at the national meet for the FIFTH year in a row under Coach Capitani. That stretch of five-consecutive top-three results is the longest for Texas since 1992-95, wow! Senior stud Emma Sticklen defended her title in the 200 fly and has now won THREE-consecutive NCAA titles in the event while setting an NCAA record time of 1:49.11. And let's talk about our hometown hero, Jillian Cox. The sophomore swept the distance events as she touched first in the 500 free (4:31.58) on Thursday before dominating the competition in the 1,650 free (15:33.54) on Saturday. Diving coach Matt Scoggin was honored with the CSCAA's Diving Coach of the Year after our star-studded national meet. Our Longhorns totaled 92 diving points – the most across the field! Freshman Alejandra Estudillo Torres certainly had herself a meet, as she won the NCAA title in the 3-meter event and placed sixth in the 1-meter and 10th in the platform. Sophomore Bayleigh Cranford finished third in the platform and seventh in the 3-meter to claim two All-American honors, and senior Hailey Hernandez finished fifth in the 1-meter to also earn All-America recognition.

Beach Volleyball takes down three top-15 opponents at home!
The Sandy Horns earned three impressive victories over top-15 opponents at home over the weekend in the East vs. West Invitational and improved to 16-5 on the season. The now-No. 8 Longhorns took down No. 2 LMU, 3-2, and No. 11 Arizona State, 4-1, to conclude the tourney on Saturday. The upset win over LMU came down to our No. 1 pair of Chloe Charles and Eva Liisa Kuivonen who had the whole crowd on its toes. The match went three sets before our ladies took home the 15-21, 21-18, 15-12 victory. The fans had that place rocking! The Horns notched another top-15 win against No. 13 Grand Canyon (4-1) on Friday. There's nothing like winning on your home sand! Our Longhorns travel to the Bayou this weekend for the Death Valley Invitational for four more top-10 matches!

Matt Scoggin tabbed National Women's Diving Coach of the Year
Kudos to our diving coach extraordinaire Matt Scoggin, who fresh off a sensational performance at the NCAA Championship by our Longhorn divers, was named the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division I Women's Diving Coach of the Year. It's the second-straight year Coach Scoggin has earned that honor and marks the 12th time in his outstanding coaching career that he's been named NCAA Coach of the Year, six with the women's divers and six with the men. He's a Longhorn Legend as an student-athlete and a coach and so deserving of this honor, congratulations my friend!

Longhorn Legend Kenneth Sims passes away
Such incredibly heartbreaking news with the passing of our Longhorn Legend and a great man, Kenneth Sims, on Friday. He was a big man, with a huge heart, who loved his Longhorns and was a fixture at so many of our events. A College Football Hall of Famer, Texas Athletics Hall of Honore member, Lombardi Trophy winner and the No. 1 pick in the 1982 NFL Draft. His list of accomplishments is a long one and he was an even better person. He will be so dearly missed but never forgotten. Sending our thoughts, prayers and love to his family, friends and teammates. Rest in Peace my friend. Services for Kenneth are set for Saturday, April 5 at 11 a.m. at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Kosse, Texas.
