Longhorns notch double-digit runs for eighth time this season.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 7 Texas (20-3) scored in each of the final six innings, cruising to a 13-3 run-rule victory over Sam Houston (7-18) on Tuesday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns mounted double-digit runs for the eighth time and totaled 16 knocks, including nine extra-base hits in the win.
Texas tallied three homers, highlighted by a go-ahead three-run blast by shortstop Jalin Flores in the third. Flores notched his ninth multi-hit performance and finished with a season-high four RBI.
In the fifth, third baseman Adrian Rodriguez joined the home run derby with a two-run shot into the YETI Yard.
Three batters later, center fielder Will Gasparino launched a 438-foot jack to extend the lead to 10-2.
Designated hitter Jayden Duplantier delivered the walk-off knock in the seventh, sending the first base dugout into a frenzy.
The Longhorns chased Duplantier into the outfield and celebrated with the 6,671 fans in attendance by climbing on the fence of the YETI Yard.
Left-handed hurler Kade Bing (1-0) earned his first win in burnt orange, pitching the first four innings. Bing allowed two runs and struck out four.
Sam Houston starter Danny Valadez (2-2) picked up the loss, after lasting just two innings. Valadez was tagged for four runs on six hits.
In the win, six different Longhorns recorded multi-hit efforts, led by a three-hit night from second baseman Ethan Mendoza.
Up next, Texas hits the road for a three-game set at Missouri. The series opener is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday at Taylor Stadium.
