No. 8 Beach Volleyball defeats No. 9 LBSU at Death Volley Invitational

The Longhorns opened the Death Volley Invitational defeating No. 9 LBSU, falling to No. 5 Stanford and No. 1 UCLA.
BATON ROUGE, Louisiana - No. 8 Texas Beach Volleyball opened the Death Volley Invitational defeating No. 9 Long Beach State (3-2) falling to No. 5 Stanford (1-4) and No. 1 UCLA (1-3).
Stanford scored its first two points of the day against the No. 3 (Maddison Parmelly/Karin Zolnercikova) and No. 2 (Katie Hashman/Emma Grace Robertson) pairs, 21-12, 21-17 and 21-12, 21-18. Chloe Charles and Eva Liisa Kuivonen (No. 1) added the only point for the Longhorns with a 21-13, 21-19 win. After going into third sets, the Cardinal added two more points against the Longhorns with a 21-16, 14-21, 15-8 win over the No. 4 pair (Macey Butler/Noa Sonneville) followed by a 21-19, 23-25, 15-6 win over the No. 5 pair (Ava Patton/Kylie Wickley).
LBSU started the dual with a 2-0 lead against the Longhorns with a 21-15, 21-14 win over the No. 5 pair (Patton/Wickley) followed by a 21-16, 21-13 win over the No. 1 pair (Charles/Kuivonen). Texas tied up the score with wins from Robertson and Hashman (No. 2) and Zolnercikova and Parmelly (No. 3), 21-17, 21-19 and 21-18, 21-18. The No. 4 pair of Butler and Sonneville entered into extra points in the third set to solidify the victory for the Longhorns with a 21-19, 18-21, 15-10 win.
After entering into third sets, the No. 4 (Butler/Sonneville) and No. 2 (Hashman/Robertson) pairs fell, 21-15, 13-21, 12-15 and 21-16, 18-21, 12-15 to UCLA. The Bruins scored its next point against the No. 5 pair of Vivian Johnson and Carys Patton, 21-13, 21-17. Parmelly and Zolnercikova (No. 3) scored the only point for Texas with a 21-16, 21-18 win.
The Longhorns will return tomorrow to face No. 4 USC at 11:45 a.m. CT on the second day of the Death Volley Invitational.
