AUSTIN, Texas – No. 5 Texas came up short against Texas State, falling to the Bobcats, 5-3, on Tuesday evening at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

The Longhorns (23-4) put the tying runs in scoring position and the winning tally on first, but Texas State lefty Alex Valentin (1) recorded the final two outs to seal the win.

With Texas trailing by three heading into the ninth, the Longhorns started a rally.

After a leadoff walk, left fielder Jayden Duplantier ripped an RBI double to left center field to cut the deficit to 5-3.

Shortstop Jalin Flores singled to right and designated hitter Rylan Galvan drew a free pass to load the bases, but Valentin induced a pop out and a 96-mph lineout to end the game.

Texas State (13-15) put up a four-spot in the eighth, highlighted by a two-run homer from catcher Ian Collier.

Earlier in the frame, the Bobcats broke up the no-hit bid with a two-out double.

Texas starter Kade Bing tossed 6 ⅓ hitless innings before right-hander Jason Flores came on in relief.

Flores (2-1) was tagged with the loss after yielding four unearned runs.

Texas State righty Carson Laws (1-0) earned the victory, with two innings of one-run baseball.

In the defeat, reigning Southeastern Conference Player of the Week Will Gasparino hit his sixth home run in the last five games. Gasparino's 410-foot shot marked his team-leading 10th homer of the year.

The Longhorns continue their homestand on Friday, with the opener of a three-game set against No. 3 Georgia. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
