FORT WORTH, Texas — University of Texas Men's Golf juniors Christiaan Maas and Tommy Morrison have been selected as two of the 10 semifinalists for the 2025 Ben Hogan Award presented by Baird, the Hogan Trophy Award Foundation, the Friends of Golf (FOG) and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced Thursday. The Ben Hogan Award annually honors the top men's NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or NJCAA college golfer based on all collegiate, amateur and professional events over the previous 12 months.
Texas is one of two schools (Auburn) who have multiple golfers on the list of semifinalists. An esteemed selection committee, comprised of more than 30 leaders in collegiate, amateur and professional golf, votes during each stage of the process.
In addition to Maas and Morrison, the eight other semifinalists include Josele Ballester (Arizona State), Luke Clanton (Florida State), David Ford (North Carolina), Ian Gilligan (Florida), Ben James (Virginia), Jackson Koivun (Auburn), Michael La Sasso (Ole Miss) and Brendan Valdes (Auburn).

He was tabbed SEC Men's Co-Golfer of the Week on Mar. 19. Twenty-four of his 30 rounds this season have been par or better, including 15 rounds in the 60s. Maas recorded a tie for fourth place at the Investec South African Open Championship (Feb. 27-Mar. 2) at Durban Country Club in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa while competing as an amateur in the DP World Tour event.

One of 20 players on the first spring watch list for the 2025 Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel, he was tabbed SEC Men's Golfer of the Week on Feb. 12. Twenty-four of his 30 rounds this season have been par or better, including 15 rounds in the 60s. Morrison claimed his first career collegiate individual victory at the Amer Ari Invitational (Feb. 6-8), as he carded a 54-hole total of 21-under 195 (67-65-63) to advance to a playoff with Hampton Roberts of North Carolina. Morrison made a birdie on the first playoff hole to claim the individual title. He set Texas program records for low 54-hole total score (195) and low 54-hole total vs. par (21-under). Morrison won the 2024 European Amateur Championship (June 26-29), becoming the first American player to win the prestigious title since the tourney began in 1986. He earned a spot on the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon, and he claimed the Bronze Medal at The Open (July 18-21) as he tied for second among the 12 amateurs in the 152-player field with a 72-hole score of 11-over 295 (75-73-74-73).
The Ben Hogan Award has honored the outstanding amateur collegiate golfer at Colonial Country Club since 2002. Prior to its move to Fort Worth, the original Ben Hogan Trophy, which was awarded on a different list of criteria, was issued at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles beginning in 1990.
This year's three finalists will be named on Tuesday, May 6. The trio will attend a black-tie dinner on May 19 at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, where the winner will be crowned.
