Longhorns sweep Aggies for first time in 15 years
AUSTIN, Texas — Left fielder Adrian Rodriguez launched a go-ahead homer in the eighth, as No. 1 Texas overcame a pair of deficits to edge rival Texas A&M, 6-5, on Sunday afternoon at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
Rodriguez's three-hit effort, capped off by his opposite-field solo shot helped the Longhorns (37-5, 19-2 SEC) complete their first sweep over the Aggies (24-19, 8-13 SEC) since 2010.
With the win, Texas became just the third team to start 19-2 or better in SEC play since the league expanded to a 30-game conference slate in 1996, joining 2013 Vanderbilt and 2022 Tennessee.
Right-handed pitcher Grayson Saunier (1-0) earned his first win as a Longhorn, tossing 1 1/3 scoreless, before righty Max Grubbs (5) induced a game-ending 3-6-1 double play on only four pitches.
In his 87th career appearance — the eighth-most all-time in program history — right-hander Andre Duplantier II tossed a season-long 5 2/3 innings.
Duplantier II held the visitors to three runs after entering with two runners on and no outs in the second.
Texas backed the sixth-year hurler, pushing across two tallies in the third.
Rodriguez traded places with sophomore Tommy Farmer IV, delivering back-to-back doubles to lead off the frame.
Two batters later, second baseman Ethan Mendoza plated Rodriguez with a sacrifice fly to tie Sunday's Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown finale, 2-2.
Texas A&M regained its lead in the fourth on a Wyatt Henseler two-run double, but the Longhorns mounted its 18th comeback win of the year.
Texas scored three times in the sixth, highlighted by a go-ahead two-RBI single from catcher Rylan Galvan.
Across the weekend, the Longhorns set a new three-game series attendance record at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, with 23,680 fans watching Texas' seventh sweep in 2025.
Up next, the Longhorns close out their homestand against Prairie View A&M on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
