Longhorn Nation,
HISTORY MADE, folks, and we can say it loud and proud once again, LIGHT THE TOWER ORANGE! In its first-ever conference season, Coach Metzger and our No. 7 Beach Volleyball team are Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Champions! That was a magnificent piece of one extraordinary weekend as we took the NFL Draft by storm with another historic three days of our Longhorns achieving a lifelong dream, Baseball swept their way to a Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown series win over Texas A&M (hey, and how about Coach Sark's heater of a first pitch on Friday night, my man is all gas, no brakes all the livelong day!), y'all brought it big time on the lake for No. 1 Rowing, and we put a bow on a terrific spring football season with an awesome fan day with all of you — the best fans in the land! We are so grateful for your support and dedication, cannot do it without you and as I often say, a united Texas is a reckoning (and we are indeed united!). It never gets old saying it, it's a great time to be a Longhorn. Let's get those Horns Up and Hook 'Em!!

It was a stampede on the beach as our Longhorns swept through Baton Rouge with 3-0 victories over South Carolina and No. 8 Florida State, twice, to RAISE THE CCSA TITLE TROPHY HIGH and bring it back to Austin! Hey, and a quick flex for y'all with your buddies and officemates this week — that's our SEVENTH Conference Championship this year! Back to Beach Volleyball, as we moved on to Sunday's selection day for the NCAA Tournament field, and we lit the tower to celebrate the championship and this incredible team, to boot. While I've got you, we have another collection of Beach Volleyball accolades to brag on as we swept a whole bunch of CCSA yearly awards, including Coach Metzger as Coach of the Year. And now it's on to our first NCAA Tourney as our ticket was punched as the No. 7 seed and for the first time ever, we're dancing on the beach! We're off to Gulf Shores to start things off against No. 10 Cal on Friday (1 p.m. CT/ESPN2) — Get your Horns Up y'all!

And before we get too far into this, I've got to take a moment to thank y'all for showing up and showing out at Fan Day. We wanted to make it a special day to celebrate and THANK YOU, THE GREATEST FANS IN THE LAND, and what a joy it was doing it. We had fans of all ages, so many smiles, high fives & Hook Em's, autographs, photos and fun & games. And, how about that fire sale, I know y'all got those closets decked out with a bunch of burnt orange and white fits that will be fire for your wardrobes! It was a truly glorious day at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. Thank y'all for coming and we can't wait to see you in the fall — it will be here before you know it!
a great day on the Forty 🤘#HookEm | @TexasFootball pic.twitter.com/pq64nm0s3Q

THE PICK IS IN! How fun was it watching the NFL Draft this weekend and keeping tabs on the barrage of Longhorns hearing their names called and their dreams coming true before our very eyes?! It was a program-best 12 players selected (for a seven-round draft), including three in the first round. Coupled with our 11 selections last year, that gives Coach Sark's squad the most NFL Draft picks in the nation over the last two years (23). We know what starts here changes the world and there's nothing like the scenes of our guys celebrating their lifetime accomplishment and the start of their next chapter with their families or for our guy Matthew Golden in Green Bay at the event. You can read all about it in the note further down in this Forty Acres Insider, but Holy Cow am I proud of all these incredible men and what an emphatic statement of excellence in player development it is under Coach Sark and his staff. This is a classy group in every way, and it was so cool having our guy Jahdae share his gratitude for all of you on his special day as well!

Speaking of Y'all, thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU for a record-setting weekend at UFCU Disch-Falk Field with 23,680 of you packing the house for our three-game series with Texas A&M. The atmosphere was electric as Coach Schloss and No. 1-ranked Baseball secured the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown trophy with a THRILLING AND MEMORABLE SWEEP OF THE AGGIES. It was hard-earned so raise it high fellas as you sure did put in the work with some gutsy, gritty Texas Fight all weekend long. There was fantastic pitching, clutch hitting, and fielding gems aplenty for this phenomenal team that moved to seven-for-seven in SEC series wins on the year (five coming in sweeps). We can puff our chest out with a league-leading 19-2 record along with a sparkling 37-5 mark overall as despite any challenges or adversity this squad just keeps finding ways to plug away AND win. I've got to say, Longhorn Nation keeps taking it up a notch, too! The crowds were fantastic, passion and pride was on point, and it was an epic scene at The Disch all weekend long. We've got another chance to support them at home tonight against Prairie View A&M (6:30 p.m. CT/SEC Network+) before they put on their road warrior caps with a trip to another longtime rival against No. 5 Arkansas in Fayetteville this Thursday-Saturday. Hopefully we'll see a bunch of you there then rest assured, we'll be right back here at home in a week for another series and family reunion at The Disch, this one with Florida (May 9-11) in town. What a ride it's been and here's to keeping the good times rollin'!

We left it all on the field in our Red River Rivalry on the road. Now Coach White and Softball will look to bounce back from a tough series at No. 3 Oklahoma, including a thrilling and gutty comeback from an eight-run deficit that came up just short on Sunday in Norman. Friday was a battle too with our Horns bouncing back from six runs down in a narrow 7-6 loss. They're 42-9 and ranked No. 4/5 in the country for a reason, so we know they'll get back up and be ready to compete with so much left to play for. The best part is we'll be back in the friendly confines of Red & Charline McCombs Field for our final SEC series this week against Kentucky on Thursday-Saturday. We need you out there and LET'S BRING THE ENERGY for our Horns in the stretch run of a hotly contested conference race. The postseason and the SEC Tournament are on the horizon, starting one week from today (May 6) in Athens, Ga, so let's help 'em finish strong with some big-time Texas Fight!
There was so much to celebrate from the week that was, but rest assured WE AREN'T RESTING ON OUR LAURELS! In addition to Beach Volleyball taking their game to the NCAA Tournament, Men's and Women's Tennis will be hosting NCAA Tourney matches right here at the Texas Tennis Center as their road to the championships begins later this week. There's Baseball and Softball too, and early next week Women's Golf will look to punch their ticket to the NCAA Championships with regional action in Lubbock starting Monday (May 5).

After courageous battle with ALS, Longhorn Legend Steve McMichael passes away
We lost a great Longhorn last week with the passing of Steve McMichael, who courageously battled ALS for a number of years. A College and Pro Football Hall of Famer who is also a member of the Texas Athletics Hall of Honor, he made a huge impact here on the Forty as a dominant defensive lineman on some great teams and then for 15 years with the Chicago Bears. The man that was affectionately known as "Bam Bam" during his Longhorn playing days had a big, magnetic personality, was a fierce competitor and beloved by many. He'll be dearly missed but never forgotten. Rest in peace my friend.
Sad day with passing of Longhorn Legend and @NFFNetwork College FB and Pro FB Hall of Famer Steve McMichael. A man who lit up every room and inspired so many in his courageous battle with ALS, he will be dearly missed but his incredible legacy lives on 🙏🏻https://t.co/GJ4Ea5ISvd

(Another) Historic NFL Draft
Well folks, I said it last year, but since it got even better, I'm sayin' it again! On a scale from 1-10, this year's NFL Draft was a 12. Literally, 12. TWELVE of our Longhorns were chosen in another record-breaking three days that were a reinforcement of just how far our program has come under Coach Sark. Like we mentioned earlier, that's on top of last year's then-record of 11! So back-to-back records for a total of 23, which in itself is, yep, you guessed it…a record! And it was darned close to the all-time two-year record by any school of 25. Once again, what was so incredible about it is the balance. I know in the past people have called us various things like DBU or RBU (which we are by the way, ha!) but we hit almost every position on the field on both sides of the ball during this draft – corner, safety, edge, defensive tackle, offensive tackle, offensive guard, tight end, wide receiver, running back and quarterback. And with our free agent signings we covered about the only other ones we missed in linebacker and center. Just amazing! But beyond the volume and the numbers that look great for our program, the most important thing was seeing these incredible student-athletes have their dreams come true as they move forward to the next step of their lives. I'm tellin' you it gets the waterworks going every year to see their reactions along with their families, and as much as we'd like them to stay here and keep wearing the Burnt Orange and White forever, this is what it's all about – seeing them grow and going on to do all the things that we take pride in The University of Texas preparing them for. It started off on Thursday night with us tying a – wait for it – record with THREE FIRST-ROUND picks, which in the 10 years before Coach Sark got here, we had a combined total of two. Now in four drafts, he's got SIX! Same goes for total picks, in those 10 years before him we had 27, in just four with him, 28! But that first-round trio of Kelvin Banks, Jahdae Barron and Matthew Golden couldn't have landed in better spots. Kelvin is a Houston guy, so it's just a hop, skip and a jump for his tremendous family to get to New Orleans. The Barron continued his legacy that seems to walk hand-in-hand with Mr. Huff, who has been such an influence in his life. Not only are they now both Thorpe Award winners and first-round draft picks, Jahdae got drafted by the same team where Huff finished his career in the Denver Broncos. I mean, it just gives you goosebumps, doesn't it? Then you've got Matt Golden, and all he did was get to have one of the most memorable draft experiences in the history of draft experiences. Can you imagine getting taken by a franchise as renowned as the Green Bay Packers in the year where Green Bay is hosting the draft for the first time ever, and you're there to get to walk out on the stage to a crowd that's going just absolutely bananas?? It's fairy tale stuff, I tell ya! Listen, I'm not going to go through everybody because if I did we'd have to turn this into a book the size of War and Peace and I'd have to ship it to you, but we can't not mention a little more Lambeau magic with Barryn Sorrell also going to the Packers and the fact that he was there to experience those fans just like Mr. Golden. Barryn went up to Green Bay because he wanted to have a dream moment, and boy oh boy did he get more than he could have even imagined. Patience is a virtue, and his virtue was rewarded as he went in the fourth round and got to walk out on that stage with Roger Goodell still there for him and into a sea of fans. It was epic, awesome and every other spectacular word you can come up with! Not to mention heartfelt with no bigger example than Mr. Ewers, who has done so much for us, just letting the tears flow after his pick. The entire three days was something to behold, and we couldn't be prouder of the guys. Back-to-back College Football Playoff semifinalists, Big 12 Champions, SEC finalists in the first year, multiple bowl champions, the list goes on and we can't thank them enough! Right along with last year's class, the way they've represented our program and our school will never be forgotten!

No. 1 Baseball sweeps the Aggies!
Oh, how sweep it is! Coach Schloss and the guys continued the Longhorns' dominance in the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown, sweeping Texas A&M in front of not one, not two, but THREE SOLD-OUT CROWDS at UFCU Disch-Falk Field! In fact, y'all set a record for the largest three-game series attendance in Austin, with 23,680 fans watching the top team in the land do its thing! Texas is now 37-5 and leads the SEC standings by FIVE games, boasting a 19-2 mark in conference play. And if you think that is impressive, the Longhorns are only the THIRD team to start 19-2 or better in SEC play since the league expanded to a 30-game conference slate in 1996. In order to break out the brooms for the SEVENTH time, the Longhorns won three one-run games, showing off plenty of Texas Fight with two comeback wins! On Friday, Ruger Riojas, Max Grubbs and Dylan Volantis combined to hold the Aggies to one run on eight hits and Tommy Farmer IV's first career homer proved to be the difference in the 2-1 win. The Longhorns secured the trophy and the series one day later, posting a 3-2 victory behind another strong pitching performance. Luke Harrison, Thomas Burns, Grubbs and Volantis teamed up to yield just a run in both the first and ninth innings, while Ethan Mendoza finished 3-for-4 with two RBI at the plate, including a game-tying solo shot and a run-scoring double in the seventh. In the finale, Adrian Rodriguez launched a go-ahead homer in the eighth, as Texas overcame a pair of deficits to edge Texas A&M, 6-5. Special shoutout to Andre Duplantier II for keeping the Longhorns in it with a season-long 5 2/3 innings out of the bullpen. Texas will host Prairie View A&M later tonight (6:30 p.m. CT/SEC Network+) before traveling to No. 11 Arkansas for a three-game set on Thursday (6 p.m. CT/ESPN2), Friday (7 p.m. CT/SEC Network) and Saturday (2 p.m. CT/SEC Network+).

Track and Field shines in final home outdoor meet of the season
There's nothing like competing at home and boy did our Track and Field team take advantage of that last week. Coach Flo's crew won a total of 12 events during the two-day Texas Invitational, and 10 different Longhorns climbed up spots in our school's record book. Aishling Callanan recorded her third-straight personal best in the 3000m steeplechase with her time of 10:19.23, making her the third-fastest Longhorn to ever run the event. And on the men's side, Xavier Butler took down an indoor world champion in the 200-meter dash with his time of 20.35! Talk about some real speed out there in Mike A. Myers Stadium. A few of our Longhorns will head back to Houston on Friday for the Cameron Burrell Invite, while the rest of the team is in prep mode for the SEC Outdoor Championships on May 15-17 in Lexington, Kentucky.

SEC awards, and it's NCAA tourney time in Tennis!
Even though there was no action on the court this week for our tennis programs, there was plenty of action off of it, starting with the SEC awards coming out and there was Burnt Orange on both teams! A giant Hook 'Em goes out to our Player AND Freshman of the Year on the men's side – Timo Legout! That's three straight conference players of the year for Coach Berque's squad, and oh by the way, he was the Coach of the Year for the second-straight year! Not only that for Timo, but he was First Team All-SEC and on the All-Freshman Team, and it was a trio of our Horns that were selected to the first team with Sebastian Gorzny and Pierre-Yves Bailly to boot! For the women, Carmen Herea was chosen for the second team, and both she and Ashton Bowers were on the All-Freshman squad! That led into yesterday when the NCAA announced that we'll have a plethora of on-court action right here in Austin this week, as once again both the men AND women will be hosting regionals! That's seven-straight years the women have been in a top-16 seed as they were No. 14, and the same goes for the men who were the No. 3 seed! Not only that, it's the third-straight time they've been in the top three, and fifth time in the last six years they've been in the top four! We'll look forward to seeing you all out at the Texas Tennis Center starting with the women on Friday (1 p.m. CT) against Grand Canyon, and then men on Saturday (1 p.m. CT) against Montana!

Men's Golf reaches Match Play quarterfinals at SEC Championship
After a tough opening round at last week's SEC Championship which left the Longhorns in a tie for 14th place, Coach Fields and the guys battled back over the next two rounds of stroke play to climb into a tie for seventh and advance to match play. Christiaan Maas finished in a tie for third in the individual standings at 9-under 201 (66-67-68), marking his fifth top-five individual finish this year! In Saturday morning's quarterfinals, Texas took defending national champion and No. 2-ranked Auburn down to the wire before dropping a hard-fought 4-1 decision to the Tigers. The Longhorns will learn their NCAA Regional Championship seeding and destination on Wednesday (Noon CT/Golf Channel) during the NCAA Selection Show. The six NCAA regionals are scheduled for May 12-14, and the top five teams at each of those sites advance to the NCAA Championship on May 23-28 at Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, California. And how cool is this?! Tommy Morrison, or T-Mo as I like to call him, was granted a sponsor exemption and will tee it up alongside the best in the world later this week at the PGA TOUR's CJ Cup Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas. Good luck T-Mo!
Beach Volleyball set for first appearance at the NCAA Tournament!
Talk about a TEXAS TAKEOVER! There's nothing like sweeping the competition, but to do it THREE-STRAIGHT times in our first-ever postseason competition was absolutely EN FUEGO! Let's hear it for Coach Metzger and our No. 7 Beach Volleyball team on claiming the CCSA Tournament Championship in Baton Rouge last Friday and Saturday. On top of the team trophy, three pairs walked away with CCSA All-Tournament Team honors with Katie Hashman and Emma Grace Robertson also earning Pair of the Tournament recognition! Maddison Parmelly, Karin Zolnercikova, Noa Sonneville and Macey Butler joined Katie and Emma Grace on the CCSA All-Tournament Team. And how about this nugget?! Katie and Emma Grace also were named the AVCA Pair of the Week for their performance in Louisiana, marking the first ever AVCA Pair of the Week honors in our program history! Now we'll turn the page and get ready to make our first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament later this week down in Gulf Shores, Alabama. We'll get the action started in the NCAA First Round on Friday (1 p.m. CT/ESPN2) against No. 10 seed California. Let's have some fun in the sand and make a run, ladies!

Rowing puts a wrap on the Longhorn Invitational
Last weekend was a solid one for Coach O'Neill and our No. 2 Rowing team as the Horns hosted their annual Longhorn Invite on Lake Walter E. Long. It was as tough of a field as you could ask for, with No. 2 Stanford, No. 15 UCF, No. 22 Oklahoma and SMU coming to town. NOT TO MENTION, the Canadian National Team traveled to Austin to take on our First Varsity Eight! Team Canada recently brought home a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic games. Our ladies train year-round and know they gotta compete against some of the best to become the best. Lake Walter E. Long saw some remarkable crowds on Saturday, and I want to give a shoutout to Bevo, the Silver Spurs, the Texas Cowboys and all of our spirit groups for showing up and providing a fantastic atmosphere! We had a mariachi band, a blow-up Bevo, food trucks and FREE t-shirts. Our Longhorns sure put up a fight against Stanford, highlighted by a victory by the Second Four that took down the Cardinal in an open-water victory with a time of 7:31.774. We also celebrated our outstanding senior class on Saturday during a post-race ceremony. Our Longhorn Network crew and 3rd and Longhorn partners continue to set the standard as we produced our first-ever Longhorn Rowing post-race show, which included analysis from former Longhorn great and Paris 2024 Olympian Kate Knifton. The Longhorns begin their postseason schedule when they head east to Oak Ridge, Tenn., on Sunday, May 11 for the first-ever SEC Rowing Championship, squaring off against No. 5 Tennessee, No. 22 Oklahoma and Alabama.
Thank you for coming out to support, Longhorn Nation! 🧡🤘#HookEm pic.twitter.com/tdosckDWTi
