Galvan delivers game-winning blast in bottom of the 10th inning.
AUSTIN, Texas — Catcher Rylan Galvan launched a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th, lifting No. 5 Texas to a 4-3 win over No. 3 Georgia on Sunday afternoon at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
Galvan's 410-foot solo shot off the right-center field scoreboard gave the Longhorns (26-4, 11-1 SEC) their 12th comeback victory of the season and first sweep over a top-3 team in more than six years.
The junior's game-winning swing marked Texas' first walk-off homer since Garret Guillemette on March 26, 2023.
While Galvan played the part of hero, left-handed pitcher Dylan Volantis came up clutch out of the bullpen.
Volantis (3-0) set the stage for the Longhorns' magical moment, as he retired 12 of the 14 batters he faced.
The freshman recorded a career-best eight strikeouts over four shutout innings, yielding just one hit to keep the potent Bulldogs (29-5, 8-4 SEC) silent the rest of the way.
Volantis came on to replace righty Ruger Riojas, who held the visitors to three runs on as many hits.
Riojas pitched into the seventh for the second consecutive start, as the 6-foot, 192-pound hurler notched seven strikeouts.
After Georgia took a 2-1 lead in the fifth, Texas shortstop Jalin Flores delivered a go-ahead two-run jack one inning later.
Flores' 30th career blast pushed the junior into a tie for 10th on the Longhorns' career home run list, matching Zach Zubia (2018-21) and John Langerhans (1969-72).
The Bulldogs leveled the score in the seventh behind a Nolan McCarthy homer, but Galvan ultimately stole the show in extra innings.
Right-hander Brian Zeldin (1-1) picked up the loss after surrendering the decisive blow.
With the victory, Texas posted its fifth weekend sweep of the year and eighth straight conference win.
The Longhorns will wrap up their five-game homestand on Tuesday, as Texas welcomes Houston Christian to UFCU Disch-Falk Field. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
