Five-run sixth propels Longhorns to 20th comeback win of season
AUSTIN, Texas — No. 1 Texas erased an early two-run hole to notch a 5-2 victory over Florida in front of 7,073 fans Saturday afternoon at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (40-9, 20-6 SEC) were held quiet through five frames, but Texas put up a five-spot in the sixth inning to mount its 20th come-from-behind win of the season.
Following a two-hour and six-minute weather delay, Texas' offense came to life with a trio of big swings.
Catcher Rylan Galvan launched a monstrous 416-foot no-doubter over the 28-foot batter's eye in straightaway center to lead off the frame.
Galvan's team-leading 14 homers are the most by a Longhorn backstop in a season since Chris Abbe in 1992.
Two pitches later, shortstop Jalin Flores delivered a game-tying shot over the YETI Yard in left field.
Flores' 390-foot jack was his 35th career blast, which vaulted him into sole possession of fifth place on Texas' all-time home run list.
After the Longhorns loaded the bases, left fielder Jonah Williams laced an opposite-field three-run double to cap off Texas' offensive outburst.
With plenty of cushion, the Longhorns' bullpen kept the Gators (34-18, 12-14 SEC) off balance the rest of the way.
Relievers Thomas Burns and Dylan Volantis teamed up to hold the visitors hitless over the final four frames, combining for eight strikeouts.
Burns (1-2) registered his first win as a Longhorn by tossing 1 2/3 scoreless in relief of starter Luke Harrison, who punched out eight and allowed just one earned run over the first five innings.
Meanwhile, Volantis (12) pitched 2 1/3 frames to lock down the win. Volantis recorded the final seven outs to log his 11th save in a conference game, which marks the most saves by a freshman in SEC play ever.
Prior to Saturday's showdown, Texas hosted its final traDISCHions day of the 2025 campaign.
The Longhorns celebrated the 20th-year anniversary of their sixth national title, with 30 former players and staff members from the 2005 team in attendance.
Texas closes out its regular-season home slate Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
