Trio from No. 4 Men’s Golf’s earn SEC postseason honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A trio of University of Texas men's golfers earned spots on the 2024-25 SEC Award teams, the conference office announced Friday. The official All-SEC awards were selected by the league's head coaches.
Daniel Bennett was named the SEC Freshman of the Year and selected to the six-person All-Freshman Team. Bennett and junior Christiaan Maas were tabbed First Team All-SEC, while junior Tommy Morrison was picked Second Team All-SEC. Morrison also was Texas' representative on the SEC Community Service Team.
Bennett has registered a team-best 69.30 scoring average over his first nine stroke-play tournament appearances this season. One of 15 players on the Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel Postseason Watch List and one of 12 men's players chosen for Team International to compete in the 2025 Arnold Palmer Cup, Bennett boasts a pair of individual runner-up finishes and four top-three showings while placing in the top-16 in eight of his first nine stroke-play events. The SEC Men's Freshman of the Week (April 16), 20 of his 27 rounds this year have been par or better, including 14 rounds in the 60s.
Maas is one of 15 players on the Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel Postseason Watch List and was one of 10 semifinalists for the 2025 Ben Hogan Award. The SEC Men's Co-Golfer of the Week (Mar. 19), he has registered a 69.58 scoring average and boasts one individual victory, five top-five and eight top-10 finishes in his 11 stroke-play appearances this year. Maas earned his second career collegiate win at the Pauma Valley Invitational (Mar. 17-18) with a 9-under 204 (68-70-66) and tied for third at the SEC Championship (April 23-25) at 9-under 201 (66-67-68).
Morrison was one of 10 semifinalists for the 2025 Ben Hogan Award and claimed SEC Men's Golfer of the Week (Feb. 12). He has registered a 69.79 scoring average over the first 11 stroke-play tournaments and has placed in the top-25 in 10 of his first 11 stroke-play appearances this year. Morrison has recorded one victory, a runner-up finish and seven top-11 efforts, as 24 of his 33 round this season have been par or better, including 15 rounds in the 60s. He claimed his first collegiate individual victory in a playoff at the Amer Ari Invitational (Feb. 6) with a 21-under 195 (67-65-63).
Morrison is a member of the Texas Cowboys, an honorary student service organization at The University of Texas. The organization was founded in 1922 with the purpose of serving The University of Texas and maintaining Smokey the Cannon, and members serve as ambassadors for the University while attending numerous significant university-sponsored events. In addition, Morrison has worked with the First Tee - Greater Austin, a youth development organization that enables kids to build the strength of character that empowers them through a lifetime of new challenges. By seamlessly integrating the game of golf with a life skills curriculum, the organization creates active learning experiences that build inner strength, self-confidence and resilience that kids can carry to everything they do. Morrison has also made numerous visits to Dell Medical Children's Hospital to spend time with ailing patients and their families.
Texas is back on the course when it competes in the NCAA Reno Regional on May 12-14 (Monday-Wednesday) at Montreux Golf and Country Club in Reno, Nevada. The Longhorns are the No. 1 seed in the 14-team regional, where the top five teams and the low individual not on those five qualifying teams will advance to the NCAA Championship.
