Former Longhorn claims his fourth career major title and first Open Championship with four-stroke victory.
ANTRIM, Northern Ireland — Former University of Texas star Scottie Scheffler carded a 3-under-par 68 on Sunday afternoon to post a four-stroke victory at The Open Championship at Royal Portrush Golf Club. Scheffler recorded his second major win of the year and fourth career major title, as he previously claimed wins at the Masters in 2022 and 2024 and the 2025 PGA Championship.
Former University of Texas men's golfers have now recorded a total of 12 Major championship victories. Scheffler is the third former Longhorn to win The Open Championship, joining Justin Leonard (1997) and Jordan Spieth (2017).
Scheffler is one of six former Longhorns to win a Major championship. He is joined in that prestigious group by Ben Crenshaw (1984 and 1995 the Masters), Tom Kite (1992 U.S. Open), Mark Brooks (1996 PGA Championship), Justin Leonard (1997 the Open) and Jordan Spieth (2015 the Masters, 2015 U.S. Open and 2017 the Open).
The 29-year-old Scheffler, who recorded his 17th career PGA TOUR victory, posted a 72-hole total of 17-under 267 (68-64-67-68) at The Open Championship to earn a four-stroke win over runner-up Harris English at 13-under 271. He became just the fourth player in Open Championship history to shoot 68 or better in all four rounds, joining Collin Morikawa (2021), Henrik Stenson (2016) and Jesper Parnevik (1994).
Scheffler entered Sunday's final round with a four-stroke lead, and he never let his cushion slip below four strokes on Sunday. This marked the 11th-straight time that he has turned a 54-hole lead into a victory.
Scheffler now has claimed three of the four major championship trophies. He is one of just four players to win the Masters, PGA Championship and The Open before the age of 30, joining Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Tiger Woods. Scheffler is the ONLY player to have won each of his first four majors by three or more shots, as his Masters wins came by three shots (2022) and four shots (2024), his PGA Championship was a five-stroke victory and his Open Championship was a four-stroke win. He also became just the third golfer to win multiple majors by four or more strokes in a single year, joining Ben Hogan (Masters, U.S. Open and The Open in 1953) and Tiger Woods (U.S. Open and The Open in 2000).
Scheffler's win marked the 110th official PGA TOUR victory for The University of Texas Men's Golf program accomplished by 17 different individuals.
