No. 9 Volleyball tops Arkansas on record-setting night

Ramsey Gary sets Texas rally-scoring era record with 33 digs; Torrey Stafford records season-high 29 kills.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – No. 9 Texas Volleyball overcame an opening-set loss to defeat Arkansas, 22-25, 29-27, 25-20, 25-19, on Friday night at Barnhill Arena, highlighted by a record-setting defensive performance from Ramsey Gary.
Gary collected a career-high 33 digs to establish the Texas rally-scoring era record. Her total was the most by a Longhorn in a four-set match and the second-most in program history. She became the fourth Longhorn to record at least 30 digs in a match and the first to reach the mark since Texas' previous record of 34 was set on Nov. 3, 1999, a span of 800 matches.
Torrey Stafford led all players with a season-high 29 kills on .348 hitting and added 13 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. She also recorded a team-high two service aces and reached 1,500 career kills with her 24th kill of the night.
Rella Binney dished out a career-high 63 assists and added 10 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Henley Anderson recorded her first career double-double with 11 kills and a career-high 13 digs, along with two blocks and an ace. Addy Gaido also had a career night, finishing with 12 kills on 19 attempts for a .579 hitting percentage.
Texas (8-5, 4-1 SEC) finished with a season-high 89 digs and hit .304 for the match after hitting .125 in the opening set. The Longhorns responded with a .515 hitting percentage in the fourth set to close out the victory.
Arkansas (8-7, 0-4 SEC) controlled much of the opening set, using a pair of blocks to build an early lead and capitalizing on Texas attack errors to move ahead 14-10. The Longhorns stayed within striking distance behind Stafford, Mackenzie Collins and Cari Spears, but the Razorbacks maintained their advantage and closed out the set, 25-22.
The Longhorns faced another challenge in the second set, falling behind 13-8 before beginning to chip away at the deficit. Stafford's kill tied the score at 16-16, and the teams traded points down the stretch. Arkansas reached set point at 24-22, but Texas fought off the opportunity and continued to answer each Razorback point. Stafford delivered consecutive kills to give Texas a 28-27 advantage, its first lead since 4-3. Gaido finished the set with a kill for a 29-27 victory, evening the match.
The third set remained tight through the midway point, with Arkansas holding a 16-15 lead before Texas took control. Stafford and Harvey combined to recorded three consecutive kills to put the Longhorns ahead, and Arkansas followed with two attack errors as Texas extended its lead to 20-16. Stafford continued to deliver, and Gaido added back-to-back kills before Stafford closed the set with her 22nd kill of the night for a 25-20 win.
Texas carried that momentum into the fourth set, opening with an 8-2 run. Camille Presley recorded the first kill of her career, while Harvey and Anderson combined for a block during the early surge. Stafford reached the 1,500-kill milestone as Texas built a 10-5 advantage, and Gaido helped extend the lead. The Longhorns remained in control throughout the set, hitting .515 and maintaining their advantage before Anderson delivered the final kill in a 25-19 victory.
The road trip continues for Texas on Sunday, Oct. 11, when the Longhorns face Oklahoma at McCasland Field House. First serve is set for 2 p.m. CT, with the match streaming live on SEC Network+.
