No. 16 Women’s Tennis sweeps Missouri, 7-0

The Longhorns did not drop a set in their second contest of a three-match road trip to open SEC play.
Columbia, Mo. – No. 16 Texas Women's Tennis swept Missouri, 7-0, at the Columbia Country Club on Friday. It was the second contest of a three-match road trip to open SEC play with the Longhorns moving to 1-1 in the conference.
Texas did not drop a set throughout the match, opening with doubles wins at Nos. 3 and 2 and following with singles wins at all six positions.
Doubles began with the pair of sophomore Salma Drugdova and freshman Mathilde Ngijol-Carré being first off the court with a 6-1 win over Andrea Artimedia and Gian Octa at No. 3. The freshman duo of Elizabeth Ionescu and Christasha McNeil followed with a 6-3 victory over Zoe Lazar and Lara Quaglia at No. 2 for the clinch. The match at No. 1 was then left unfinished with the tandem of sophomore Carmen Herea and freshman Anastasia Abbagnato even at 5-5 with Alex Ackman and Korina Roso at No. 1.
Ionescu was then first off the singles court with an efficient 6-2, 6-1 win over Artimedia at No. 4, and McNeil extended the lead with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Octa at No. 3. The clinch then came from No. 3 Herea who defeated Roso, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1.
The remaining matches were then played out with sophomore Eszter Meri downing Ackman, 7-5, 6-0, at No. 2, while Ngijol-Carré took a 6-4, 6-4 win over Lazar at No. 5, and Drugdova completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Quaglia at No. 6.
The Longhorns will round out their road trip with a visit to No. 39 Vanderbilt on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
