Robbins mounts first career multi-homer performance in defeat
AUBURN, Ala. — With No. 2 Texas two outs away from taking the series opener, No. 5 Auburn cleared the bases to notch a 4-3 walk-off win at Plainsman Park on Friday night.
Bristol Carter delivered a two-run single and the Tigers (19-3, 4-0 SEC) capitalized on a defensive miscue to secure their 12th straight victory.
In the defeat, Aiden Robbins mounted his first career multi-homer performance, smacking a game-tying blast in the fourth and a go-ahead solo shot in final frame.
Robbins' ninth-inning jack marked his eighth home run in his first 83 at-bats at Texas (18-3, 2-2 SEC), setting a new career high.
Auburn southpaw Garrett Brewer (1-1) logged the win, while Longhorn left-hander Ethan Walker (1-1) was tagged with the loss.
In a pitchers' duel among the top two staffs in the league, Texas starter Ruger Riojas tossed a season-long 6 1/3 innings of one-run baseball.
After surrendering back-to-back doubles to open his outing, Riojas retired 20 of the next 21 batters he faced. The righty finished with six strikeouts across a season-high 99 pitches.
On the other side, Jake Marciano threw seven innings, yielding one run on Robbins' fourth-inning homer. Marciano totaled nine punchouts, limiting the Longhorns to two hits and a pair of free passes.
Texas will look to even the series on Saturday. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. at Plainsman Park.
