The Longhorns defeated the Baylor Bears, 10-2, in five innings Friday night.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 2 Texas Softball (27-1) moved its win streak to a program-record 25 games in its 10-2 (five innings) win over the Baylor Bears (20-9) Friday night at McCombs Field.
The Longhorns surpassed the previous win streak program record of 24 games, which was set by the 2006 team. Texas' current win streak of 25 games is the longest in the country.
Texas improves to 27-1 overall (6-0 SEC) and 15-0 at home, winning its 17th-consecutive game at home in a streak that dates back to the 2025 season. Texas recorded its 15th run-rule victory of the season, including its third in a row. UT has run-ruled opponents in 12 of its 15 home games this season.
Texas has won six-straight games against Baylor, including four-consecutive at home.
Freshman RHP Hannah Wells (4-1) made her fifth start and earned the win after going 4.0 innings in the circle. The right hander from Coahoma, Texas, allowed just one run on four hits while punching out two batters. Wells did not allow a walk and retired the first five batters she faced. Sophomore RHP Cambria Salmon threw an inning of relief after entering in the fifth. Salmon gave up a solo home run but retired three of the next four batters she faced to limit the damage. With two outs and a runner at first, Salmon recorded a strikeout to conclude the top half.
Texas outhit Baylor at a 12-5 clip. The Longhorns combined for five extra-base hits and drew five walks. In the bottom of the fourth, Reese Atwood, Katie Stewart and Hannah Wells connected on back-to-back-to-back home runs. It marked the sixth time in program history UT has mashed three-consecutive home runs. Texas last launched three-consecutive home runs vs. Kentucky on May 2, 2025.
Three different Longhorns had multi-RBI nights. At the leadoff spot, junior center fielder Kayden Henry finished 2-for-4 with two RBI, two runs scored, a triple and a stolen base. Senior catcher Reese Atwood obliterated her 11th home run of the season – a two-run shot in the fourth – and also drew a walk. Junior first baseman Katie Stewart had a 2-for-2 performance with two RBI – one of which coming from her solo home run – her 15th home run on the year. The Frankfort, Ill., product also drew a walk. Wells showcased her two-way stardom after cranking a solo home run of her own to go along with a walk. It was Wells' sixth home run of the season. Junior shortstop Viviana Martinez went 3-for-3 with an RBI, double and scored a run. Senior second baseman Leighann Goode went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, an RBI and a walk. Senior right fielder Ashton Maloney finished 1-for-2 with a walk. Senior left fielder Kaiah Altmeyer drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.
The Longhorns plated two runs with two down in the bottom of the first. First, Stewart singled to first base to drive in Goode for a 1-0 lead and then Martinez connected on a single back to the pitcher to score Atwood.
After quiet second and third frames by both teams, Baylor trimmed UT's lead to 2-1 in the fourth on a single back to the pitcher that allowed a run from third to score on the throw.
Texas fired back with a seven-run bottom half, beginning with Henry's one-out, two-RBI triple to send Martinez and Maloney home for a 4-1 advantage. Altmeyer's sacrifice fly to shallow center field pushed Henry home from third to stretch the lead to 5-1. Three-straight homers by Atwood, Stewart and Wells increased the UT lead to 9-1.
Baylor added its second run on a leadoff solo home run in the top of the fifth. In the bottom frame, Goode ripped her second hit of the game to left field to score Henry and secure the walk-off, run-rule win.
