No. 3 Men’s Tennis downs No. 27 Kentucky, 4-2

The Longhorns swept their weekend road trip with a pair of top-30 victories after defeating the Wildcats on Sunday.
Lexington, Ky. – No. 3 Texas Men's Tennis downed No. 27 Kentucky, 4-2, on Sunday at the Boone Tennis Complex in Lexington. The win gave the Longhorns a sweep of their weekend road trip with a pair of top-30 victories after also defeating No. 13 Vanderbilt on Friday.
Texas came up just short in doubles in a tiebreaker of the deciding match at No. 2 after having won at No. 3 but fallen at No. 1. The Longhorns then rallied for four singles victories, including sophomore Oliver Ojakaar at No. 5 and freshman Lucas Marionneau at No. 6 to give them a 2-1 lead. Then after Kentucky tied it with a win at No. 2, Texas closed with victories by senior No. 4 Sebastian Gorzny at No. 1 and sophomore No. 43 Sebastian Eriksson at No. 3 for the clinch. Freshman No. 90 Abel Forger also had a break lead in his third set at No. 4 when play stopped.
After doubles, Ojakaar made quick work of his singles match with a decisive 6-0, 6-1 ranked win over No. 89 Charlelie Cosnet at No. 5. Marionneau then followed with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Mikael Arseneault at No. 6 for the lead.
In between the pairs of Longhorn wins, freshman No. 19 Kalin Ivanovski fell to No. 99 Nicolas Arseneault, 6-2, 7-6 (1), at No. 2 to even the overall match, but Texas responded with a top-25 win by Gorzny over No. 22 Eli Stephenson, 7-5, 7-5, at No. 1, and Eriksson in three sets over Jaden Weekes, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3 for the clinch.
In the lone unfinished match, Forger had a 7-5, 4-6, 2-0 lead over No. 55 Jack Loutit at No. 4 when play halted.
Earlier in doubles, the No. 19 duo of Eriksson and Ojakaar were first off the court with a top-50 win over No. 48 Nicolas Arseneault and Matt Rankin, 6-3, at No. 3. Texas had also had late break leads on the other two courts, but Ivanovski and Forger came up just short to No. 24 Loutit and Stephenson, 6-4, at No. 1, and the No. 23 pair of Gorzny and Marionneau went to a tiebreaker at No. 2, but fell to Cosnet and Martin Breysach, 7-6 (5).
The Longhorns (16-6, 7-2 SEC) will next return home to face No. 48 Tennessee on Friday, March 27, at 6 p.m. CT at the Texas Tennis Center.

Set One: Marionneau broke first for 4-3, but Arseneault broke back and held to lead 5-4. However, Marionneau closed on a 3-0 run.
Set Two: Marionneau broke and held at deuce for 2-0 and later broke again for 6-3 and the match on a deuce point.

Set Two: Eriksson held and broke on a deuce point to start a stretch of three-straight deuce-point breaks leaving Eriksson with a 3-1 lead. Eriksson later broke again at deuce for 6-2 and the set.
Set Three: Eriksson won consecutive deuce points and then won 15 of the next 16 points for a 5-0 (0-40) lead. Weekes rallied to win that game, but Eriksson served out the match at deuce.
