No. 4 Men’s Golf’s Maas, Potter named to Fred Haskins Award Spring Watch List

Christiaan Maas and Luke Potter are two of 20 players named to watch list for nation’s top collegiate men’s golfer.
COLUMBUS, Ga. — University of Texas Men's Golf seniors Christiaan Maas and Luke Potter have been named to the Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel Spring Watch List, the Haskins Foundation through its media partners Golfweek and Golf Channel announced Monday morning. Maas and Potter are two of 20 players named to the watch list for the annual award which honors the top men's collegiate golfer.
The Postseason Watch List will be comprised of 15 players and released after the completion of conference championships. The Final Watch List will include 10 players and be announced on May 22. Each Watch List is unique and a player does not need to appear on a previous watch list to be considered for any future watch lists.
Voting for the 2026 Haskins Award will begin on May 22 when the 10 finalists are announced. The accomplishments of the finalists will be celebrated at the 3rd Annual Haskins Honors presentation at The Grand Blanc (adjacent to the 1st green at Omni La Costa) on Wednesday, May 27. This special evening will be hosted by the Haskins Foundation, the Back of the Range, College World Golf Championships Foundation, and three-time Haskins Award winner and former University of Texas star Ben Crenshaw.
Maas, a three-time All-American at Texas who is No. 4 in the latest World Amateur Golf Ranking (March 4) and No. 2 in the latest PGA TOUR University Class of 2026 rankings (March 4), is a three-time SEC Golfer of the Week selection this year (Oct. 1, Oct. 15 and March 4). He has played in seven of UT's first eight events this season and sports a 70.38 stroke average through 21 rounds while recording one victory and a total of five top-eight individual finishes. Fourteen (14) of his 21 rounds this year have been par or better, including eight rounds in the 60s. Maas claimed individual medalist honors by two strokes against an elite field at the Southern Highlands Collegiate (March 1-3) with a 10-under 206 (70-68-68). He earned low amateur honors and tied for 10th at the DP World Tour's Hero Dubai Desert Classic (Jan. 22-25) with a 72-hole score of 6-under 282 (70-71-69-72). Maas also won the individual title by 10 strokes and paired with teammate Daniel Bennett to pace Team South Africa to the team crown at the 2025 World Amateur Team Championships (Oct. 8-11) in Singapore.
Potter, No. 25 in the latest World Amateur Golf Ranking (March 4) and No. 6 in the latest PGA TOUR University Class of 2026 rankings (March 4), earned SEC Golfer of the Week honors on Feb. 4. He has played in six of UT's first eight events this season and sports a team-best 70.11 stroke average through 18 rounds while recording a total of three top-six individual finishes. Thirteen (13) of his 18 rounds this year have been par or better, including five rounds in the 60s. Potter finished runner-up at the Arizona N.I.T. (Jan. 26-27) with a 12-under 204 (66-68-70) and placed fourth at the Amer Ari Invitational (Feb. 5-7) with an 18-under 198 (63-65-70). He also finished sixth at The Williams Cup (Oct. 19-21) with a 3-under 213 (71-70-72).
Celebrating its 56th year, the Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel has been given to players who have captured 33 major championships and more than 400 professional tournament titles around the world. The Fred Haskins Award is the oldest individual college golf award and the only award to be voted on by players, coaches, golf SID's and select golf media.
