Five from No. 4 Men’s Golf’s claim SEC postseason awards

Comegys tabbed Newcomer of the Year, while Maas, Bennett, Morrison and Potter named to All-SEC teams.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A quintet of University of Texas men's golfers earned spots on the 2025-26 SEC Award teams, the conference office announced Thursday. The official All-SEC awards were selected by the league's head coaches.
Graduate Matt Comegys was named the SEC Newcomer of the Year, while senior Christiaan Maas was tabbed to the 10-person All-SEC First Team. In addition, sophomore Daniel Bennett, senior Tommy Morrison and senior Luke Potter each claimed spots on the 10-person All-SEC Second Team.
Comegys, No. 84 in the latest World Amateur Golf Ranking (May 6), has played in each of UT's first 12 events this season and sports a 71.08 stroke average through 36 rounds while recording a total of two top-three and five top-18 individual finishes. Twenty-three of his 36 rounds this year have been par or better, including 13 in the 60s. The SEC Co-Golfer of the Week on Sept. 24, he registered a career-best tie for second at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational (Sept. 19-21) with a 5-under 205 (69-69-68). Comegys also tied for third at The Ford Collegiate (April 13-14) with an 11-under 199 (64-67-68) and posted a 1-0-1 record in match play at the SEC Championship (April 25).
Maas, No. 4 in the latest World Amateur Golf Ranking (May 6) and No. 2 in the latest PGA TOUR University Class of 2026 rankings (May 6), is one of 10 semifinalists for the Ben Hogan Award and one of 15 players on the Fred Haskins Award Postseason Watch List. A three-time SEC Golfer of the Week selection this year (Oct. 1, Oct. 15 and March 4), he has played in 11 of UT's first 12 events this season and sports a team-best 69.52 stroke average through 33 rounds while recording one victory and a total of seven top-eight individual finishes. Twenty-four of his 33 rounds this year have been par or better, including 16 rounds in the 60s. Maas claimed individual medalist honors by two strokes against an elite field at the Southern Highlands Collegiate (March 1-3) with a 10-under 206 (70-68-68). He also earned low amateur honors and tied for 10th at the DP World Tour's Hero Dubai Desert Classic (Jan. 22-25) with a 72-hole score of 6-under 282 (70-71-69-72).
Bennett, No. 15 in the latest World Amateur Golf Ranking (May 6), has played in 10 of UT's first 12 events this season and sports a 70.10 stroke average through 30 rounds while recording a pair of runner-up efforts and a total of four top-eight individual finishes. Twenty of his 30 rounds this year have been par or better, including 13 in the 60s. He was recently named to the 2026 Arnold Palmer Cup Team International and will compete July 3-5 in Ireland. Bennett placed second at The Williams Cup (Oct. 19-21) with a 6-under 210 (68-71-71) and tied for second at the season-opening Sahalee Players Championship (Sept. 6-7) with a 2-under 214 (72-69-73).
Morrison, No. 19 in the latest World Amateur Golf Ranking (May 6) and No. 4 in the latest PGA TOUR University Class of 2026 rankings (May 6), has played in 11 of UT's first 12 events this season and sports a 69.91 stroke average through 33 rounds while recording a total of five top-12 individual finishes. Twenty-three of his 33 rounds this year have been par or better, including 15 rounds in the 60s. He placed fourth at the Arizona N.I.T. (Jan. 26-27) with a 10-under 206 (70-66-70) and tied for seventh at The Williams Cup (Oct. 19-21) with a 1-under 215 (73-71-71). Morrison tied for eighth at the Amer Ari Invitational (Feb. 5-7) with a 16-under 200 (69-67-64) and tied for eighth at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational (Sept. 29-30) with a 1-over 211 (72-68-71). He also posted a 2-1 record at the 2025 Walker Cup (Sept. 6-7) and helped Team USA claim a 17-9 victory over Great Britain & Ireland at Cypress Point Club (Pebble Beach, Calif.).
Potter, No. 31 in the latest World Amateur Golf Ranking (May 6) and No. 6 in the latest PGA TOUR University Class of 2026 rankings (May 6), has played in 10 of UT's first 12 events this season and sports a 69.77 stroke average through 30 rounds while recording a total of five top-10 individual finishes. Twenty-three of his 30 rounds this year have been par or better, including 12 rounds in the 60s. The SEC Co-Golfer of the Week on Feb. 4, he finished runner-up at the Arizona N.I.T. (Jan. 26-27) with a 12-under 204 (66-68-70). Potter also placed fourth at the Amer Ari Invitational (Feb. 5-7) with an 18-under 198 (63-65-70) and finished fifth at The Ford Collegiate (April 13-14) with a 9-under 201 (65-69-67).
Texas is back on the course when it competes in the NCAA Bryan Regional on May 18-20 (Monday-Wednesday) at Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas. The Longhorns are the No. 1 seed in the 14-team regional, where the top five teams and the low individual not on those five qualifying teams will advance to the NCAA Championship.
