Robbins registers second multi-homer performance in series
COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The second-ranked University of Texas baseball team fell to No. 18 Texas A&M, 11-4, in front of 7,812 fans at Blue Bell Park on Saturday afternoon.
After a 1-hour, 38-minute rain delay halted play in the bottom of the first, the Aggies (27-7, 9-5) batted around to put an eight-spot on the board.
The Longhorns (27-7, 9-5 SEC) were one out away from limiting the damage to two, but the next four hitters reached safely to balloon the deficit.
With Texas A&M ahead, 2-1, Bear Harrison recorded a two-run double down the left field line to extend the advantage.
Following a Boston Kellner free pass, Gavin Grahovac rocketed a bases-clearing triple to pad the lead, 7-1.
The next pitch, Caden Sorrell capped off the eight-run inning with a double to right center.
In the defeat, Aiden Robbins registered his third career multi-homer effort, including his second in as many contests. Robbins blasted solo shots in the third and eighth frames, tallying four home runs in a six at-bat stretch. The junior also added an RBI in the opening inning.
Josh Livingston delivered the other tally for the Longhorns, smacking a solo in the fifth.
The Aggies used two arms to secure the series victory, as Gabriel Lyons (5-0) earned the win in relief of Aiden Sims. Lyons tossed the final 4 1/3 frames of one-run baseball. The righty scattered three hits and struck out five.
Texas starter Luke Harrison (4-1) was tagged with the loss. Harrison threw 44 pitches in the decisive first.
The series finale is slated for 1 p.m. Sunday at Blue Bell Park.
