Harrison notches career-best 10 strikeouts in 2-1 defeat
AUSTIN, Texas — After securing the series on Saturday, No. 4 Texas dropped a 2-1 pitchers' duel to No. 11 Alabama at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Sunday afternoon.
Luke Harrison (4-2) recorded a career-best 10 strikeouts over a co-career-long seven innings, holding the Crimson Tide (28-13, 9-9 SEC) to two runs. The graduate student finished with a career-high 106 pitches.
With the left-hander's standout performance, all three starters for the Longhorns (30-8, 11-6 SEC) totaled double-digit strikeouts across the three-game set. As a staff, Texas totaled 49 punchouts in the series.
Alabama hurlers Myles Upchurch (5-2) and Ashton Crowther (1) limited the Longhorns to one run on four hits. In the ninth, Texas' Ethan Mendoza mounted a run-scoring single to put the tying tally on first, but Crowther slammed the door to salvage the weekend finale.
Upchurch allowed one knock across 5 1/3 scoreless innings, while Crowther logged the final 11 outs to fend off the Longhorns.
The Crimson Tide plated a run in both the second and seventh, highlighted by Jason Torres. Torres reached safely three times, delivering an RBI single to open the scoring.
Up next, Texas wraps up its five-game homestand against Air Force on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
