No. 4 Softball sweeps Kentucky, Stewart sets program’s single-season home run record

Katie Stewart set a new program single-season record with her 24th home run.
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Junior first baseman Katie Stewart hit her 24th home run of the season to set a new program single-season record and help No. 4 Texas sweep the Kentucky Wildcats with an 11-2 (6 innings) win Sunday afternoon at John Cropp Stadium.
Texas has swept three of its SEC opponents this season with two coming on the road. Texas is now 38-8 overall, 15-6 in SEC and 14-3 on the road.
The Longhorns have secured back-to-back road series wins after taking the series from No. 13 Georgia last weekend in Athens.
Stewart surpassed the program's previous single-season home run record of 23 which was set by Reese Atwood in 2025.
Junior RHP Teagan Kavan (19-3) manufactured the win after limiting Kentucky to one run on six hits across 4.0 innings of work. The West Des Moines, Iowa, product struck out seven and did not give up any free passes in each of her last three outings. Sophomore RHP Cambria Salmon took over for Kavan in the fifth. Salmon gave up one run on three hits across 2.0 innings. Salmon tossed a 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth to end the ballgame for the Horns.
Senior catcher Reese Atwood had a dominant showing at the plate, knocking in a team-high three RBI on two hits, including a two-run home run in the top of the sixth. Atwood has 16 home runs on the season – the second most on the team. Junior center fielder Kayden Henry matched her season high in hits with a 3-for-4 day, scored three times and registered a stolen base. Henry has peppered three hits in six games this season.
Stewart went 2-for-3 at the dish with her two-run home run and also reached via walk. Freshman designated player Hannah Wells bombed her 10th home run of the season on a two-run shot in the third. Senior second baseman Leighann Goode finished 2-for-3 with an RBI double. Senior right fielder Ashton Maloney snagged her seventh multi-hit performance with two hits.
