No. 3 Softball shuts out Wisconsin to advance to NCAA Austin Regional final

AUSTIN, Texas – Junior RHP Teagan Kavan and sophomore RHP Cambria Salmon combined for a two-hit shutout to propel No. 3 Texas Softball (44-10) to a 9-0 (six innings) win vs. Wisconsin (33-20) Saturday afternoon at McCombs Field. It was Texas' 20th run-rule win of the year.
With the win, Texas advances to Sunday's NCAA Austin Regional Final at 12 p.m. CT vs. Baylor. Texas is 2-0 against the Bears this season.
Texas moves to 44-10 overall (.814) and extends its win streak to six games. Texas has won 12-consecutive NCAA Regional games. Texas is 21-3 in NCAA Regional games under head coach Mike White. Texas has not lost a regional game since 2022.
Kavan (23-4) made her 28th start of the season and retired 15 of 17 batters faced, curbing Wisconsin to just one hit and striking out eight across 5.0 innings of work. Kavan twirled 4.1 hitless innings before Wisconsin broke through with a single to center field in the fifth. The West Des Moines, Iowa, product manufactured three 1-2-3 frames and retired 12-straight between the first and fifth innings. Salmon replaced Kavan in the circle in the top of the sixth. Salmon allowed a one-out double to left center but struck out two-straight batters to keep the Badgers off the board.
Junior center fielder Kayden Henry starred at the plate for Texas, finishing 3-for-4 with four total RBI. Henry plated two runs off her two-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the sixth. The Dickinson, Texas, native also scored two runs on a double down the left field line in the second. Henry has seven home runs this season.
Senior catcher Reese Atwood demolished her 17th home run of the season in her 2-for-2, two-RBI performance. Atwood reached base in all three plate appearances after drawing a walk.
Texas struck early with a three-run first inning. With runners at second and third and nobody out, junior shortstop Viviana Martinez gave Texas a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly to score Henry from third. Atwood then monstered a two-run home run down the left field line to stretch the lead to 3-0.
In the second, Henry barreled a two-run double down the left field line to plate senior right fielder Ashton Maloney and freshman third baseman Jaycie Nichols, increasing the lead to 5-0.
With the bases loaded and no outs, freshman left fielder Alisa Sneed drove in a run on a fielder's choice to make it 6-0 Texas. Nichols' RBI single to third made it 7-0 UT.
In the bottom of the seventh with Ashton Maloney on first and no outs, Henry jacked a two-run home run to left field for the walk-off, run-rule win.
