No. 12 Men’s Golf’s Hurd earns co-medalist honors at Bayou City Collegiate Classic

Freshman Sterling Hurd claims share of individual title in his collegiate debut.
HOUSTON, Texas — University of Texas Men's Golf freshman Sterling Hurd earned co-medalist honors on Tuesday in the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at Westwood Golf Club. Making his collegiate debut and competing as an individual in the tournament, Hurd posted a 54-hole total of 10-under 206 (65-67-74) to share the individual title with Connor Henry of Middle Tennessee (67-70-69).
During Monday morning's opening round, Hurd carded 10 birdies and registered a 7-under 65 in his first collegiate action. Players were able to complete a portion of their second round on Monday, but a two-and-a-half hour weather delay forced them to finish their second round on Tuesday morning. Hurd tallied six birdies against a single bogey in his second round while posting a 5-under 67. He returned on Tuesday afternoon and carded a pair of birdies while recording a 2-over 74 in his final round.
Sophomore Brooks Simmons also competed as an individual in the tournament. Simmons tied for 16th in the 87-player field with a three-round score of 2-under 214 (70-74-70).
This marked the second straight week that a Longhorn has earned an individual title. Junior Daniel Bennett and fifth-year Matt Comegys shared individual medalist honors at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup last Tuesday.
The Longhorns are back on the course as a team when they compete at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational on Sept. 28-29 (Monday-Tuesday) at historic Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
