THE MATCHUP — The Texas Longhorns wrap up non-conference play, traveling to face No. 19/14 TCU at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium on Sunday evening. The Horned Frogs, who are coming off an appearance in the College Cup a year ago, mark the Longhorns' first ranked opponent of the 2026 season. Against TCU, Texas boasts a 10-8-5 record in a series that began in 1994, the Longhorns' inaugural campaign. The Horned Frogs are 3-1-1 to start their 15th season under head coach Eric Bell.
OH MY WORD — Texas scored a goal for each of its honorees on senior day, as the Longhorns downed Incarnate Word, 6-0, at Mike A. Myers Stadium on Aug. 30. With the win, Texas registered its largest margin of victory since topping Stephen F. Austin, 7-0, on Sept. 7, 2023. The Longhorns also posted half a dozen tallies for the first time in more than two years. Texas found the back of the net early and often, delivering three goals apiece in each half. Five different Longhorns put their name on the scoring sheet, with Amalia Villarreal sparking the outburst in the fourth minute. Villarreal notched her fourth goal in six matches this season. Ava McDonald and Audrey Bryant both netted their first goals of the year, providing the Longhorns with their largest halftime lead of non-conference action. Texas scored twice across an 80-second stretch in the second half, with Alicia Riggins and Callan Harrington both joining the party. The Longhorns punctuated the night, pressuring Incarnate Word into an own goal. Over the 90-minute affair, Texas outshot the Cardinals, 21-9. The Longhorns mounted double-digit attempts in both frames, directing 13 shots on target.
LOCK IT DOWN — For the third time in four seasons, Texas has notched four clean sheets through their first six matches. The Longhorns have outscored their opponents, 13-3, while yielding just 18 shots on target. The 2026 squad is only the second Texas team to have conceded a school-best one goal through four contests alongside the 2008 squad. Meanwhile, senior Bayliss Flynn became only the second Longhorn goalkeeper to record back-to-back shutouts in their first two starts at Texas in the program's illustrious 33-year history, joining Dana Hall in 2003.
A NEW ERA — On Nov. 25, 2025, Margueritte Bates was named just the fourth Longhorns head soccer coach since the program's birth in 1994. Bates arrives on The Forty Acres following an extraordinary four-year tenure at UCLA, where she became the first rookie head coach to win the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship in 2022. During her time with the Bruins, Bates compiled a 67-13-9 (.803) ledger, the fourth-best mark of any program during that stretch. The two-time Pac-12 Coach of the Year guided UCLA to a pair of conference titles and four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.
