An aggressive power pitcher who came into his own down the stretch of the 2006 regular season en route to securing a spot in Texas' weekend starting rotation... a quick learner who improved his game as the season progressed... a bulldog on the mound who challenges opposing hitters... will vie for a starting role in 2007.

2006 HONORS
· Spring 2006 Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll
2006 SEASON
· Made a total of 19 appearances in 2006, including 12 starts, while going 4-1 overall with a 5.26 ERA and 58 strikeouts over 63.1 innings of work.
· Tied for fourth on the team in wins and innings pitched while placing third on the squad in starts and strikeouts. Also boasted the team[apos]s fifth-lowest batting average against at .260.
· Made six starts during his eight appearances in league play en route to posting a 2-0 record to go along with 29 strikeouts and 15 walks over 31.1 innings. Also limited opponents to a .280 average against.
2006 HIGHLIGHTS
· Made his first career start opposite UT Pan American (2/8) and pitched two shutout innings en route to earning his first collegiate win.
· Allowed only one run on two hits while walking two and fanning five to pick up his second career victory during a five-inning start against No. 11 Arizona State (3/14).
· Surrendered two runs on three hits while striking out a pair during a 5.2-inning effort against No. 3 Rice (3/22).
· Worked a career best six innings and fanned a career-high eight versus Oklahoma State (3/26).
· Made his seventh and eighth starts of the year at No. 19 Baylor (4/13) and versus No. 3 Nebraska (4/22).
· Tied a career best for innings pitched by working six frames against Texas A&M (5/1), during which he surrendered only one run on three hits while fanning five en route to registering his first career Big 12 win.
· Limited Kansas (5/6) to only three hits over six innings while striking out seven on his way to picking up his fourth win of the year and being selected as the Phillips 66 Co-Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on May 9.
· Hurled four innings of shutout relief against Dallas Baptist (5/13) in which he scattered four hits and fanned six.
· Pitched for the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL) under the direction of head coach Cooper Farris.
· Logged a 5-3 record with a 2.18 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 66 innings as he helped propel the Gatemen to the CCBL Championship Series.
· In game two of the CCBL Semifinal Series, he pitched a complete-game shutout, fanning 14 batters while yielding just four hits.
HIGH SCHOOL
· A three-year letterwinner in baseball as well as basketball who also earned two letters in football at Yoakum High School (2003-05).
· A two-time District 26-3A MVP and all-state performer as a first baseman/pitcher for head coach Jace Wood's Bulldog baseball team from 2003-05. Also captained the squad as both a junior and senior.
· Posted a 1-0 record, two saves, a 1.14 ERA and 33 strikeouts over 24.2 innings as a sophomore to help Yoakum win District 26-3A and Area Championships behind a 22-5 record.
· Recorded a 9-4 record, four saves, a 0.38 ERA and 191 strikeouts over 92 innings in 2004. Also aided the Bulldogs in amassing a 22-12 record and reaching the regional semifinals as a junior.
· Tossed a pair of no-hitters during the Bulldogs' playoff run in 2004.
· Helped Yoakum win its second district title in three seasons and reach the state semifinals behind a 33-4 mark during his senior year.
· Went 12-1 with a career-low 0.36 ERA, three saves and 188 strikeouts over his 78.2 frames in 2005.
· An all-district forward (2005) in basketball for Coach Donald Blank's Bulldogs who led the area in rebounding and was a senior captain.
· Led the Yoakum basketball team to a pair of district titles (2003 & 2005), an area championship in 2004 and a regional quarterfinals appearance in 2005.
· A tight end, outside linebacker and kicker for Coach Jessie Crow's football team during the 2004 and 2005 seasons.
· Earned all-district honors as a linebacker twice and as a kicker during the 2004 season. Was also tabbed an all-area linebacker and kicker in 2004 while helping the Bulldogs win consecutive area championships in 2003 and 2004.
· An academic all-district performer in all three sports who was also a member of the National Honor Society.
· Vice President of his senior class as well as a member of the student council, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and FFA.
· Participated in UIL Headline Writing and served as a volunteer referee/ umpire.
· Pitched and played first base for head coach Mike Rutledge's Houston Kyle Chapman baseball club during the summer of 2005.
PERSONAL
Born Riley Jacob Boening on April 28, 1987, in Corpus Christi, Texas ... parents are Gary and Theresa Boening ... older brother, B.J., was a pitcher for Texas State (2006-07) ... his mother, Theresa, graduated from Texas A&M-Kingsville and played basketball for the Javelinas from 1975-79 ... majoring in kinesiology ... has been on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll for five semesters.
