20 questions with Jordon and Juston Street
03.18.2005 | Baseball
Sons of former UT pitcher and two-time All-American James Street as well as brothers of former UT hurler and three-time All-American Huston Street, Jordon and Juston Street don the burnt orange and continue their family legacy as pitchers in the Texas baseball program. While both brothers suffered season-ending knee injuries in football as seniors at Westlake High School, they have both made remarkable recoveries and added quality arms to the Longhorns bullpen in 2005. Natives of the greater Austin area, these twin brothers recently sat down with TexasSports.com to answer 20 questions.
1. What is your motto?
Jordon & Juston: "'You are either getting a little better or a little worse, but you don't stay the same,' which is something our dad always says."
2. Who is your favorite baseball player?
Jordon & Juston: "Our brother, Huston."
3. What is it like to be a fraternal twin?
Jordon: "It is pretty cool because you always have someone to relate with.
There is a connection between Juston and I that is different than my connection with my other brothers. I think it's because we are the same age and experience the same stuff at the same time. We can talk about things with each other that we can't with our other brothers."
Juston: "It is pretty cool. Growing up together was awesome because I always had someone to compete with, which only makes you better."
4. What is the biggest difference between you and your twin brother?
Jordon: "He's funnier and taller than me."
Juston: "I am a lot weirder than Jordon."
5. What is the biggest similarity between you and your twin brother?
Jordon: "Our character. We are both tough guys and have the same values."
Juston: "Our competitiveness. Losing doesn't settle right with us, even if it is over something small, like ping-pong."
6. What is your favorite type of music and your favorite song?
Jordon: "I like the slower alternative stuff. My favorite song is 'Wonderwall' by Oasis."
Juston: "I like Metallica and all of their songs, but if I had to choose my favorite song from them it would be 'Unforgiven II.'"
7. Are you named after anyone?
Jordon: "No, but our parents do things with middle names. My middle name is Rae, which is my mom's middle name."
Juston: "My middle name is Jameson, which stands for James' son."
8. What is your favorite guilty pleasure?
Jordon: "Playing video games, especially Halo 2."
Juston: "Procrastinating."
9. What is your favorite sitcom?
Jordon: "Growing up, it was the 'Simpsons,' but I like 'Seinfeld' a lot more now, especially because I haven't seen many of the episodes."
Juston: "It used to be the 'Simpsons,' but now it's 'Family Guy.'"
10. Which movie star would you like to have over for dinner?
Jordon: "Mel Gibson, because he is my favorite actor, his life story is cool and he did both 'The Passion of the Christ' and my favorite movie, which is 'Braveheart.'"
Juston: "Jessica Biel."
11. If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would you choose?
Jordon: "Shaq, because he is so tall. It would be a complete change for me because I don't know what it is like to be that tall."
Juston: "I would say the President because I would like to see what it is like to govern an entire country."
12. What is your favorite UT tradition?
Jordon: "Singing the 'Eyes of Texas' because nobody else does something like that before and after a game. I also think flashing the Hook'Em Horns is cool."
Juston: "I like all of the fight songs. I also like the fact that we have the Hook'Em Horns because everyone else puts the Horns down, which just builds us up more."
13. How did you start pitching and what is your best pitch?
Jordon: "By just playing baseball. I have always pitched and played in the outfield. Huston actually didn't start pitching until we were older, but Juston and I have been pitching since we were young. We were also always on the same team in little league. It was cool because I would pitch one game and he would pitch the next. I would also say that my best pitch is my curveball."
Juston: "I have pitched ever since I was little. My dad taught me how to pitch, plus it was always my favorite thing to do. My best pitch would have to be my fastball because it has a lot of tail to it."
14. What is your favorite meal to prepare?
Jordon: "Actually, I am a horrible cook, so I don't prepare the meals.
Juston is the one who cooks. Breakfast is about the only meal I can attempt to make as I can prepare eggs and maybe Pop Tarts."
Juston: "Steak and mashed potatoes."
15. What is the last concert you attended?
Jordon: "I went to see Third Day, which is a Christian band."
Juston: "I saw Metallica for the first time ever when they came to Austin."
16. How do your teammates describe you?
Jordon: "Hopefully, as a hard worker and as a guy who sticks to what he believes in."
Juston: "I would say as a funny and competitive guy."
17. How do you describe your twin brother?
Jordon: "Juston is probably the weirdest, funniest guy I know. He can make me laugh in any situation. He is also very outgoing and always has attention on him even when he is not trying."
Juston: "He's a little smarter than me in some of his actions. He is also a little more reserved than I am."
18. What type of vehicle do you own or would you like to own?
Jordon: "Actually, I like my vehicle, which is a 2004 Toyota 4Runner. I wouldn't want anything else."
Juston: "I own a black 2003 Z71 Chevy Tahoe, but what I would like to own is a current version of what I have now or possibly a Hummer."
19. What are some stereotypes about college you were told were true but are not?
Jordon: "I heard that the professors did not care about you. The classes would be so big that the professor would not have any time to spend with you individually. In actuality, when you do approach them, they are pretty nice. They try to make professors seem scary in high school, but they really aren't like that."
Juston: "I thought you had to do everything on your own and professors would not talk to you or help you. But, they actually do talk to you and help you out. In fact, they encourage it and enjoy it when you come and talk to them."
20. Why did you choose your jersey number?
Jordon: "It has been my favorite number since I was little. I couldn't wear the No. 5 in high school because the number was retired so I wore No. 9. My second choice was 25, which used to be Huston's number. Actually, I wore 25 in high school during the same time he wore it when he played here at Texas."
Juston: "I wore No. 18 when I played summer ball and it has always been one of my favorite numbers. I also wore No. 21 in high school. When I came to Texas, those two numbers were already taken (Cliff Gustafson and Roger Clemens), so I chose No. 27 instead because it just kind of came to me and felt right."
