STILLWATER, Okla. -- After battling to a 0-0 tie at the half, eighth-ranked Texas soccer dropped its third match of the season, a 1-0 decision at Oklahoma State on Friday, Oct. 26.
The Longhorns move to 11-3-3 overall and 4-2-2 in Big 12 matches. Oklahoma State stands at 11-4-2 overall and 4-3-1 in league games.
After both teams were held scoreless in the first half, the Longhorns came out firing at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex. UT had a strong chance early in the second period as NSCAA All-American forward Kelsey Carpenter (Allen, Texas) crossed the ball to the near sideline to senior midfielder Caitlin Kennedy (Euless, Texas), who was sitting 15 yards outside of the goal. Kennedy's shot deflected wide off the OSU junior goalkeeper Erin Stigler in the 53rd minute.
The Longhorns again attacked the OSU defense again with three consecutive shots in the 67th minute of the game. Redshirt sophomore Stephanie Gibson (Richmond Hills, Ontario, Canada) took the first shot from the 18-yard box that was saved by Stigler. Carpenter fired the second shot that hit the post before freshman Kirsten Birkhold (Scottsdale, Ariz.) lined up the final shot in the series that was blocked by the defense.
Carpenter added a fourth chance less than a minute after that series that was blocked by the OSU defense.
UT junior goalkeeper Dianna Pfenninger saved five shots and allowed one goal. She moved within 10 minutes of second place on the all-time list. She stands in third at 5,191 minutes behind No. 2 Cami Varnadore (5,201 minutes).
Her counterpart, junior Erin Stigler, registered seven saves for her 10th win of the season.
OSU sophomore Siera Strawser scored the lone goal of the game off a pass from All-American Yolando Odenyo.
