Baseball drops 4-1 decision to San Diego in series rubber match

ROUND ROCK, Texas -- The University of Texas yielded a pair of two-run home runs as the No. 4-ranked Longhorns dropped a 4-1 decision to the University of San Diego in collegiate baseball action Sunday afternoon at The Dell Diamond.
Texas (1-2) drew first blood with one run in the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out, Bradley Suttle doubled to the left-center gap and scored as Preston Clark delivered a bloop single to centerfield.
San Diego (5-1) claimed the lead in the top of the seventh inning as Justin Snyder hit a double down the rightfield line and Jordan Abruzzo followed with a two-run home run over the leftfield foul pole to stake USD to a 2-1 lead.
The Toreros tacked on two more runs in the top of the ninth. Abruzzo led off the frame with a single to leftfield. Shane Buschini followed with a two-run home run to leftfield.
Abruzzo led San Diego's offensive assault going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs and two RBI. Snyder was 2-for-4 with one double and one run scored and Bushcini went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Suttle led Texas offense going 3-for-4 with one double and one run scored. Clark went 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Matt Couch (1-0) earned the win for San Diego allowing one run on five hits and two walks while striking out six over six innings. A.J. Griffin picked up his second save of the season with one inning of no-hit relief.
James Russell (0-1) was saddled with the loss in his first collegiate start. He allowed two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out three over seven innings.
Texas returns to action on Tuesday with a 3 p.m. match against UT Arlington at The Dell Diamond.
