Baseball rides seven-run third inning to 14-2 win over Baylor

WACO, Texas -- No. 10 Texas took advantage of a two-out, seven-run rally in the third inning to post a 14-2 win over Baylor in Big 12 baseball action Saturday evening at in front of a sellout crowd of 5,281 at Baylor Ballpark.
With two outs in the third inning, Chance Wheeless singled through the middle and Jordan Danks and Bradley Suttle drew walks to load the bases. Kyle Russell broke the scoring seal with a two-run single, plating Danks and Wheeless to knot the score at 2-2. Russell Moldenhauer hit a two-run double down the rightfield driving in Suttle. Josh Prince kept the rally alive with a two-run double to the left centerfield gap pushing the lead to 5-2. Nick Peoples and Travis Tucker finished the scoring surge with RBI singles, inflating the UT cushion to 7-2.
Texas (18-7, 2-0 Big 12) tacked on four more runs in the fourth inning. With one out, Suttle and Russell hit back-to-back home runs for the second time on the season. Suttle deposited his home run over the fence in leftfield and Russell's moon shot traveled just right of the batter's eye in centerfield. The inning continued as Moldenhauer reached on a fielding error. Prince followed with a bunt single, Preston Clark plated Moldenhauer with a single through the left side and Tucker plated Prince with a sacrifice fly.
The Longhorns added two insurance runs in the seventh with Danks plating Tucker on a double down the rightfield line and Danks scoring on a fielding error.
Suttle capped off the scoring with his second home run of the game and sixth of the season in the ninth inning.
For the second consecutive game, Baylor (12-9, 0-2 Big 12) pounced on the Longhorns early with two runs in the first inning. Ben Booker hit a lead-off single up the middle, Beamer Weems reached on a bunt single and Aaron Miller hit a two-run double off the centerfield wall staking Baylor to a 2-0 lead.
Prince led Texas' offense going 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI. Suttle went 3-for-5 with two home runs, three runs scored and two RBI. Russell went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs scored and three RBI. Peoples and Tucker each added a pair of hits.
Miller led Baylor's offensive attack, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Adrian Alaniz (6-1) earned the victory for Texas. Baylors' first three batters got hits off of Alaniz, but he settled in and allowed just one hit and three walks over the next 23 batters faced. He allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven over seven innings. Alaniz moved to 5-0 on the season with one no-decision as a starter on the year.
Keith Shinaberry pitched a perfect eighth inning with two strikeouts and Juston Street closed the door with hitless ninth.
Kendal Volz (2-1) was saddled with the loss for Baylor. He allowed seven runs on five hits and three walks while striking out two over 2.2 innings.
The Longhorns and Bears wrap up the three game series Sunday with a 2 p.m. contest at Baylor Ballpark.
