Baseball blanked by Nebraska, 7-0

LINCOLN, Neb. -- No. 5 Texas dropped a 7-0 decision to Nebraska in Big 12 Conference baseball action Friday evening at Haymarket Field.
The loss marked the first time the Longhorns were shutout since April 23, 2006.
James Russell (8-3) was saddled with the loss. He allowed six runs on 11 hits and one walk while striking out six over five innings.
Tony Watson (4-2) pitched a complete game shutout. He allowed just two hits while striking out six for the Cornhuskers.
Nebraska broke the scoring seal in the bottom first inning. With one, Ryan Wehrle singled to leftfield. One out later, Jake Opitz singled to put runners at first and second. Craig Corriston plated Wehrle with a single up the middle.
The Cornhuskers added another run in the second with a solo home run by Mitch Abeita.
Wehrle added a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth to inflate the cushion to 5-0.
Wehrle went 4-for-5 with one double, one home run, two runs and four RBI.
Texas and Nebraska play game two of the series Saturday at 3 p.m.
