Baseball defeats Texas A&M, 9-1, for State Farm Lone Star Showdown sweep

AUSTIN, Texas -- Sophomore left-hander Austin Wood allowed one run over eight innings to lead No. 7 Texas to a 9-1 win over No. 9 Texas A&M. With the win, the Longhorns recorded a three-game sweep over the Aggies in the State Farm Lone Star Showdown.
Wood (7-1) scattered five runs and one walk while fanning two over his eight innings to earn the win. Pat McCrory wrapped up the game by retiring all three batters he faced, including two strikeouts.
Texas (42-14, 21-6) did most of its damage in the bottom of the fourth inning. Russell Moldenhauer broke the scoring seal with a sacrifice fly. Preston Clark added a two-run home run and Jordan Danks capped off the rally with a three-run home run.
The Longhorns tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. The rally was highlighted by a two-run single by Bradley Suttle, staking the Longhorns to a 9-0 lead.
Texas A&M (41-15, 13-13) scored its lone run in the eighth inning when Brian Ruggiano touched home on a wild pitch.
Chance Wheeless, Suttle, Chais Fuller and Travis Tucker all had two hits for Texas. Danks went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs scored and three RBI.
Craig Stinson went 2-for-3 to lead the Aggies' offensive attack.
Scott Migl (6-3) was saddled with the loss for A&M. He allowed five runs on five hits and three walks, while striking out one over 3.2 innings.
Texas, the league regular-season champion, kicks off the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship Wednesday with a 10 a.m. contest against Kansas State at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.
