BOULDER, Colo. -- The University of Texas soccer team dropped a 1-0 contest to No. 22 Colorado Friday evening in Boulder. The ninth-ranked Longhorns fall to 8-2-2 on the season and 1-2-1 in the Big 12 while CU improves to 10-2-2 and 4-1-1 in league play.
The Buffs took advantage of their offensive attack in the 74th minute when junior Nikki Marshall received a ball from senior Nikki Keller. Marshall split two Longhorn defenders for a one-on-one with keeper Dianna Pfenninger. Just as the UT net minder came out to challenge, Marshall struck the ball into the upper left corner of the net for the goal.
Neither team was able to get a lot going offensively during the first half, with both UT and CU recording five shots and just two on frame. The Longhorns best look during the first period came in the ninth minute when freshman Lucy Keith headed a ball through to sophomore Alisha Ortiz in the left side of the box. Ortiz's shot deflected off CU keeper Kirsten Radlinski setting up a corner opportunity. Freshman Kylie Doniak connected on Courtney Gaines' kick but was blocked by the Buffalo backline.
Colorado controlled the ball for the majority of the second half, taking 10 shots to UT's six, five of which came over the final 15 minutes. The Buffs also had seven corner kicks while the Longhorns had three.
Texas closes out its Big 12 road trip at Texas Tech on Sunday. First kick is set for 1 p.m. Central at John Walker Soccer Complex.
