Belt tallies eight RBI in Baseball's 22-3 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

AUSTIN, Texas -- Led by an eight-RBI performance by sophomore Brandon Belt, the Texas Longhorns scored 20 or more runs for the first time since June 3, 2005, posting a 22-3 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in collegiate baseball action Wednesday evening at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
Belt came up two RBI shy of the single-game school record of 10 set by Ron Gardenhire against Arkansas on March 5, 1978. He went 4-for-6 with two doubles and four runs scored. The effort also marked Belt's third two-double performance on the year.
Travis Tucker, Michael Torres and Jordan Danks each logged two hits and four runs in the game and Tucker and Torres chipped in two RBI apiece. Kawika Emsley-Pai went 1-for-2 with three walks and four runs scored in his first collegiate start at catcher. Connor Rowe went 1-for-2 with a three-run double in a substitute role.
The 22 runs were the most scored by the Longhorns since a 23-0 victory over Sam Houston State on February 16, 2002.
The Longhorns' offense logged 16 hits and 17 walks for the game. Emsley-Pai, Danks and Kyle Russell each drew three walks.
Kyle Walker (1-0) earned the victory in relief. He pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out four. Brandon Workman allowed three unearned runs over 3.2 innings as the starter. He yielded four hits and two walks. Stayton Thomas, Marcus Tackett and Belt each pitched one scoreless inning to close out the game.
Jacob Perales led the Islanders with two RBI.
Texas returns to action Friday with a 2:30 p.m. contest against Stanford at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
