The win was the 3,000th for the Longhorns over collegiate competition and Texas joined Fordham University as the only two programs to ever reach the plateau.
Wood (7-3) earned the win for the Longhorns, his fourth consecutive victory. The northpaw allowed three runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out three over 8.2 innings. Chance Ruffin retired the final batter to earn his third save of the season.
With Texas winning 2-1 in the seventh inning, Kyle Russell took sole possession of first place on the Longhorns' career home run list, blasting his 18th of the season and the 56th of his career, a two-run shot, off the video board in rightfield. He also moved into a third-place tie with former Texas A&M Aggie Daylan Holt on the Big 12 Conference career home run list.
St. John's drew first blood in the home half of the third inning. With one out, Tom La Stella drew a walk, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a double to the gap in left centerfield by Jeff Grantham.
Texas claimed the lead in the top of the sixth. With one out, Russell was hit by a pitch and Preston Clark singled to leftfield. Brandon Belt followed with an RBI double down the rightfield line to tie the score at 1-1. David Hernandez followed with a single through the left side, plating Clark with the go-ahead run.
Matt Tosoni (6-2) was saddled with the loss for the Red Storm. He yielded two runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out two over 5.2 innings.
Jordan Danks and David Hernandez each went 2-for-4 for the Longhorns.
For the second time against the Horns, Chris Anninos logged two hits for St. John's.
