DALLAS -- Texas sophomore Dylan Frittelli wrapped up the fall campaign by securing his third straight top-10 individual finish, as the Longhorns placed eighth in the 12-team Baylor Intercollegiate Tuesday at the par 71, 7,068-yard Royal Oaks Country Club.
Texas began the day in fourth place at 13-over through one-plus rounds after play was suspended Monday afternoon due to rain. The Longhorns picked up round two Tuesday morning and finished the round with a 12-over 296.
UT improved in its final round with a 2-under 282 and finished the event in eighth place at 23-over for the tournament. Texas A&M claimed the event at 4-under par, and SMU's James Kwon took medalist honors at 6-under par.
After shooting a 1-over 72 in Monday's opening round, Frittelli (Pretoria, South Africa) finished with a 1-under 70 in the second round on Tuesday. Frittelli tacked on an even-par 71 in Tuesday's third and final round to tie for eighth overall at even par.
Junior Donald Constable (Wayzata, Minn.) finished his second round with a 3-over 74 and went on to card a 2-over 73 in round three. Constable tied for 30th place at 8-over par. Freshman Cody Gribble (Dallas, Texas) finished round two with a 7-over 78 before rebounding with a 3-under 68 in the final round. Gribble joined Constable in a tie for 30th place at 8-over par.
Sophomore Alex Moon (Plano, Texas) finished round two with a 4-over 75 and, like Gribble, went under-par in round three. Moon shot a 1-under 70 in the final round and also tied for 30th at 8-over par. In his second career varsity start, sophomore Steffan Schmieding (Austin, Texas) finished with a 6-over 77 in round two before carding an 8-over 79 in round three. Schmieding placed 66th at 28-over par.
Playing as an individual, freshman Johnathan Schnitzer (Houston, Texas) finished with a 12-over 83 in round two before rebounding with a 1-over 72 in the final round. Schnitzer tied for 61st place at 22-over par.
POST-ROUND QUOTES
Texas head coach John Fields
"I'm happy we came back with the 282 in the final round. Cody Gribble really experienced the first tough tournament of his career, but he came back and played well in the final round. That's the measure of a really fine player. I'm happy for Dylan Frittelli to get another top-10 finish, but we have a lot of work to do. We'll try to put the clubs down for a little while after having a positive fall. Now, it's time to refocus for the spring and make the right adjustments."
