Baseball topples Texas State 9-7

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Longhorns outscored the Baylor Bears 9-7 in a scheduled 14-inning baseball exhibition game on Sunday afternoon at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
Tant Shepherd hit a game-tying, two-run home run in the 12th inning and drove in a pair of runs with a single through the left side of the infield in the 14th inning to lead the Longhorns. Shepherd hit 3-for-6 with five RBI to pace Texas.
Russell Moldenhauer continued to flourish offensively. Moldenhauer, who hit four home runs in six games at the 2009 College World Series and hit two home runs last week against Baylor, hit a first inning home run and finished the game with two RBI. Kevin Keyes went 2-for-5 with one run RBI and Jordan Etier was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
After getting tagged for seven runs in the first six innings, the Longhorns' pitching staff finished the game with eight scoreless innings. Brandon Workman, Austin Dicharry and Cole Green each pitched two shutout innings. Each gave up one hit in their work with Dicharry and Green striking out two apiece. Andrew McKirahan and Stayton Thomas each pitched one scoreless inning.
