AUSTIN, Texas -- Cole Green and Austin Wood combined to pitch a 1-0 shutout, giving the No. 4 Texas Longhorns a doubleheader sweep against the Penn State Nittany Lions in collegiate baseball action Saturday afternoon at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
Green (1-0) fanned seven and allowed just five hits over 8.1 innings to pick up his first victory of the season. Wood struck out the only two batters he faced to record his second save of the doubleheader and his third of the season.
Texas scored the game's lone run in the bottom of the second inning. Tant Shepherd singled up the middle, stole second base and scored on a single to rightfield by David Hernandez.
Hernandez paced UT's offense, going 2-for-3 with one RBI and one stolen base.
T.J. Macy (0-1) was the hard-luck loser in a complete-game effort for Penn State. He allowed one run on five hits and three walks while striking out seven over 8.0 innings.
Grant Youngblood recorded two of Penn State's five hits to lead the Nittany Lions' charge.
Texas and Penn State wrap up the four-game series on Sunday with a 1 p.m. first pitch at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
