AUSTIN, Texas -- The No. 8 Texas Longhorns put on their hitting shoes and posted a 19-11 win over the No. 17 Baylor Bears in Big 12 Conference baseball action Saturday afternoon at Baylor Ballpark.
The win marked career victory No. 1,700 for Texas head coach Augie Garrido. He became the first NCAA Division I coach to reach the plateau. He was also the first D-1 coach to reach the 1,500- and 1,600-win plateaus. Garrido currently sits No. 2 among all coaches, trailing only Gordie Gillespie of Divison III St. Francis (Ill.) who earned his 1,800th win earlier this season.
The game featured season-highs for hits (16), runs (19), total bases (27) and home runs (3) as the Longhorns moved to 32-11-1 on the season and 14-8-1 in Big 12 Conference play. The win put the Horns back in first place in the league standings.

The Horns pounced on the Bears with one run in the visitor half of the first when Brandon Belt hit a two-out solo homer to the scoreboard in left centerfield.
The Texas lead ballooned to 6-0 with a five run second. Preston Clark drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brandon Loy. Preston Clark started another Texas rally in the top of the third. He doubled down the leftfield line as the leadoff batter. With one out, Rupp was hit by a pitch to put two runners on and a deep fly by Shepherd put runners at the corners. Rowe singled up the middle to drive in Clark. The cavalcade of runs continued in the fifth for the Horns. Rowe reached on a throwing error by Baylor shortstop Shaver Hansen. With one out, Torres singled up the middle to plate Rowe. Booker, the Bears' centerfielder misplayed Torres' hit and it rolled to the fence for an error and a t-ball-style home run. Baylor put up three runs in the seventh. Dan Evatt hit a double down the leftfield line and Booker put runners on the corners with a single. Drew Bias loaded the bases with a walk.
