Arizona State
Head coach Pat Murphy
Opening statement: You can probably surmise that this is a pretty emotional moment. [Lambson] has been good all year and he was good again tonight. The credit goes to Texas, they did a wonderful job of hitting in the clutch. I'm really proud of this club, this is something they are going to remember forever, they're a team.
About the resolve of Mike Leake coming back on short rest: I'm glad you asked me that, I think we're going to watch Mike Leake get inducted into the college baseball hall of fame. 40-6 in his career, he led us to Omaha twice and to three Super-Regionals.
About the way his team lost and lifting of players hats to the stands following the team meeting: I talked to them about how much they've accomplished and to be proud of themselves. I've talked all week about this team being the least experienced in major college baseball and to get here. This group did all the things you want kids to do. I'm as proud of this team as any team, maybe more, for how they've conducted themselves on and off the field.
OF Kole Calhoun
About how he will remember tonight's game: It might be a great game for somebody to watch on TV sometime, but right now it hurts. This is the best team I've ever been on and I didn't want it to end.
Starting P Mike Leake
About how he will remember tonight's game: Any game with this team is memorable. This is the best team I've ever been on, and I will always remember this team.
About returning to the mound on two days rest: When we won yesterday, I wanted the ball. I tried to make my pitches, made a couple of mistakes and paid for them. But I tried to put them past me and work to help my team.
OF Jason Kipnis
About how he will remember tonight's game: This one will sit with me for a while. This is a great group of guys. We had great camaraderie and every game was close and fun. I think I'll remember playing with these guys rather than the loss.
Texas
Head coach Augie Garrido
Opening statement: Wow. What a game. First of all I have to recognize Arizona State and the great job they've done with its program. The pitching. The competitiveness. The way they battled with their team in the ninth. The reason that was so exciting was as much about them as us. The two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth was about as exciting as it gets. I feel blessed about it. How does it happen? It just does.
About LSU: I think LSU has played the best baseball in this tournament all around. They've been the most consistent team in the tournament. If it's about drama, we've got that.
CF Connor Rowe
About his mindset going into his at-bat in the ninth inning: I wasn't thinking about hitting a home run. I had faced him three times before and I'd seen a lot of changeups. I was sitting there waiting for it and got it.
C Cameron Rupp
About the team's emotions going into the ninth inning: We came in, and were a little upset. We picked each other up, we've done that before and we take pride in that. We go into each inning looking to win. We've competed like that all tournament long and it gave us the win tonight.
P Austin Wood
About if he thinks they are a team of destiny: We have two games left, and we'll find out Wednesday if we are. Arizona State is a good team, but we have to get ready for LSU now.
