LAWRENCE, Kan. -- The University of Texas soccer team dropped a 1-0 contest to Kansas, Sunday afternoon at Jayhawk Soccer Complex in Lawrence. Texas moves to 7-3-2 on the season and 0-2-1 in Big 12 play while Kansas is now 5-7-0 and 1-3-0 in league action.
The Jayhawks recorded the lone goal of the match when redshirt junior Emily Cressy connected on a rebounded shot in the 65th minute. Senior Erin Ellefson took the initial shot that Cressy collected and fired into the back of the net from about eight yards out.
Texas held the advantage in shots 12-10 and a 9-7 mark in the second half, including two shots over the last minute from sophomore Kristin Cummins and senior Kirsten Birkhold. Junior Kylie Doniak led the horns with two shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Alexa Gaul posted two saves to Jayhawk Kat Liebetrau's four.
The Longhorns return to Austin for a two-match home stand this Friday, Oct. 8, and Sunday, Oct. 10 with games against Texas Tech and Baylor. Both matches start at 7 p.m. Central out at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
