No. 6 Baseball sweeps Kansas with 10-4 victory on Sunday

| AUSTIN, Texas -- The No. 6 Texas Longhorns continued their streak of offensive success in series finales in 2001 hammering out a 10-4 win over the Kansas Jayhawks on Sunday to complete a three-game sweep at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns have registered double-digit in the run column in a series finale four of the last five weekends. During the span, Texas is averaging 13.4 runs for the last game of the weekend.
Kevin Lusson led the Horns' offensive attack with five RBI. The sophomore third baseman went 2-for-4 with one run, one stolen base and one grand slam. Keyes went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, one home run and two RBI. Cameron Rupp went 3-for-5 with two runs and Russell Moldenhauer had three walks and two runs.
Texas (26-7, 10-2 Big 12) posted the first run on the board in the bottom of the second. Rupp hit a leadoff single and moved to third when Keyes doubled down the leftfield line. A ground out by Kevin Lusson brought Rupp home, making the score 1-0.
Kansas (19-13-1, 3-5-1 Big 12) tied the game in the top of the third. James Stanfield singled to rightfield to lead off the frame and went to second base after a sac bunt by Jake Marasco. Stanfield scored on a Brandon Macias double down the leftfield line, evening the score 1-1.
The Longhorns reclaimed the lead with six runs in the third inning. Jordan Etier started the inning with a single up the middle. A sacrifice bunt by Cohl Walla and a deep fly ball by Brandon Loy moved Etier to third. Shepherd laced a single to leftfield to drive in Etier. Rupp singled and Russell Moldenahuer walked to load the bases. Keyes drew a walk, sending Shepherd across home plate for a run. Lusson nailed his first career grand slam and the second grand slam for the Horns this season, to stake the Horns to a 7-1 lead.
Walla reached first base off when Kansas' catcher misplayed a strike three to start off the bottom of the fourth inning. A single up the middle by Loy put runners on the corners and a ground ball by Rupp drove Walla in for the unearned run and an 8-1 Longhorn lead.
Brett Lisher started off the Jayhawks' fifth inning with a single up the middle. He moved to second when Stanfield singled to centerfield and scored on a Casey Lytle single through the right side, trimming the Texas advantage to 8-2.
Tony Thompson homered to the left field to start the sixth inning to trim the margin to 8-3.
In the top of the seventh, Kansas continued its scoring streak with another run. With one out, Macias singled and Lytle was hit by a pitch to spark the rally. After Price replaced Lytle at first with a fielder's choice groundout, Brian Heere drew a walk to load the bases. Kendal Carrillo relieved UT starter Brandon Workman on the mound and walked Thompson to whittle the Texas edge to 8-4. A
The Horns responded with two insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh. Moldenhauer drew a leadoff walk and Keyes followed with a two-run dinger off the top of the State Farm sign down the the leftfield line to inflate the UT cushion to 10-4.
Workman (6-1) picked up his fourth consecutive win. He allowed four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out four over 6.2 innings. Andrew McKirahan retired all three batters he faced in 1.0 innings of relief. Stayton Thomas finished the game with 1.1 perfect innings, including one strikeout.
Brett Bollman (1-3) was saddled with the loss after surrendering seven runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out one in 3.0 innings.
Thompson led the Jayhawks offense going 1-for-3, with one home run and two RBIs. Macias went 2-for-4 with one run, one double and one RBI. Stanfield also added a pair of hits.
The Longhorns return to action on Tuesday in a 6:05 p.m. contest against the Texas State Bobcats at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
