No. 6 Baseball completes two-game sweep of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 6-2

AUSTIN, Texas -- The No. 6 Texas Longhorns completed a two-game sweep of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Wednesday night with a 6-2 victory over the Islanders.
The win was Texas' fifth straight and moved the Horns to 23-7 on the year. Texas A&M- Corpus Christi fell to 12-18. It was the Horns 10th straight victory over the Islanders, pushing their series edge to 14-1.
The Longhorns struck first in the home half of the second when Kevin Keyes reached on an error by Islander shortstop Cory Ege, and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jonathan Walsh. After stealing third, Keyes was batted in on a groundout by Kevin Lusson.
Cohl Walla continued the Texas scoring in the third with a solo shot to the visitor's bullpen in left field. The dinger was Walla's third of the year.
The Longhorns again crossed the plate in the fifth. Lusson led off the inning by singling through the right side. After a sacrifice bunt by Connor Rowe, Lusson took third on a wild pitch by Islander pitcher Alex Silva, and was sent home on a sacrifice squeeze bunt by Jordan Etier.
Texas added two more runs in the seventh. After Rowe reached third on a fielding error by right fielder Matt Holland, the junior scored off a double by Etier. A Walla bloop single scored Etier to push the lead to five.
The Longhorns contributed one more run in the eighth. Keyes led the frame off with a walk, and was pinch run for Kyle Lusson. The senior immediately stole second, and took third on a groundout by Walsh. Texas' sixth and final run was scored when Kyle crossed home plate on a Kevin Lusson sacrifice fly to right.
Right-hander Austin Dicharry earned the start and pitched 4.0 shutout innings, surrendering three hits and one walk while fanning three. Kendal Carrillo (2-0) earned a win in relief and threw two shutout innings with two strikeouts and one hit allowed.
Southpaw Hoby Milner used just six pitches to retire the side in the seventh while allowing one hit. Stayton Thomas finished the game with 2.0 innings, two earned runs on four hits, one walk while striking out three.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi pushed two runs across in the ninth. After a single to left field and swiping second, Holland scored on a Jeramie Marek single through the middle. Third basemen Weston Montgomery followed with a single to right-center, scoring designated hitter Bobby Buckner, who reached on a walk.
Lefty Chris Pena (0-2) was saddled with the loss for the Islanders. The junior threw 4.0 innings, allowing two runs on two hits. Silva followed Pena and threw one inning and allowed one run on one hit.
The Longhorns will return to action with a weekend series versus Kansas. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
