AUSTIN, Texas -- The No. 2 Texas Longhorns wrapped up the non-conference portion of their 2010 regular-season schedule with a 13-2 win over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs to complete a doubleheader sweep at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Sunday afternoon.
Kevin Keyes led the Longhorns' offensive assault in the night cap, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one home run and six RBI.
Taylor Jungmann (5-2) worked 7.0 shutout innings, scattering three hits and three walks while striking out eight.
The Longhorns drew first blood in the bottom of the first inning. Cohl Walla hit a leadoff single to left centerfield. With one out, he moved to second on a Tant Shepherd single and third on a fly out by Russell Moldenhauer. Keyes singled through the right side to push Walla across as the Longhorns staked claim to a 1-0 lead.
Texas pushed the margin to 4-0 with three runs in the third. With one out, Loy was hit by a pitch and replaced at first by Tant Shepherd who grounded into a fielder's choice. Moldenhauer followed with a walk and Keyes launched a home run over the wall in right centerfield for his 13th dinger of the season.
The chasm grew to 6-0 in the fifth inning. Jordan Weymouth was hit by a pitch and Shepherd drew a walk to put two runners on. Will Alvis replaced Tech starter Trevor Petersen on the mound and issued a walk to Moldenhauer to load the bases. Keyes hit a sacrifice fly to the base of the wall in centerfield to drive in Weymouth and Shepherd scored on a wild pitch for the six-run lead.
Any chances of a Bulldogs' comeback were snuffed out with a four-run seventh inning for Texas. Shepherd reached on an error and stole second base. After Moldenhauer drew a base on balls, Keyes grounded out to first to push both runners into scoring position. Rupp followed with a two-run single through the left side to give the Longhorns an 8-0 edge. After Kevin Lusson flied out for the second out of the inning, Walsh singled through the right side and Jordan Etier walked to load the bases. Walla capped off the hit parade with a two-run single up the middle and Texas claimed a 10-0 advantage.
A three-run eighth for the Longhorns featured RBI singles by Keyes, Walsh and Etier.
Louisiana Tech broke up the shutout in the ninth inning scoring a pair of runs off Stayton Thomas. Jonathan Mire hit a leadoff double and Dan Breazeale was issued a walk to put a pair on. After Philip Menou struck out swinging, Taylor Terrasas laced a double down the leftfield line to plate Mire. Clint Stubbs knocked in Breazeale with a groundout to shortstop for the game's final run.
Walla went 2-for-6 with one run and two RBI. Rupp went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Walsh went 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI. Moldenhauer went 1-for-2 with one double, three walks and three runs scored.
