CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Texas junior Bobby Hudson fired a 2-under 70 to pace the Longhorns Wednesday in round two of the 2010 NCAA Men's Golf Championships at The Honors Course (par 72, 7,395 yards).
The Longhorns carded an 8-over 296 in Wednesday's second round of stroke play. Texas finished the day in a tie for 17th place at 10-over par for the tournament after opening the day tied for 10th place at 2-over par. Florida State leads through two rounds at 14-under par, and Oklahoma State sits in second at 9-under par. Georgia Tech is in third at 4-under par, and Augusta State sits in fourth at 1-under par. Florida and San Diego are tied for fifth at even-par. San Diego's Alex Ching leads individually at 9-under par.
Nine teams - all outside of the top-10 in the team standings - were unable to complete their second rounds Wednesday due to a two-hour weather delay. The nine teams will finish their second rounds on Thursday beginning at 6 a.m. Central. The third round of stroke play will begin Thursday no earlier than 8 a.m. Central.
Texas' third-round tee time will officially be determined upon the completion of the second round. If the Longhorns remain outside of the top-15 after the second round has completed, Texas likely will open its third round between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Central. Live scoring will be available at GolfStat.com.
The 30-team field will be pared down to the top-eight teams after Thursday's third and final round of stroke play. The remaining eight teams will begin a match-play event to determine the NCAA team champion with the match-play quarterfinals to begin on Friday. The individual national champion will be crowned after Thursday's final stroke-play round.
Hudson (Memphis, Tenn.) easily topped his career-best NCAA Championships round with his 2-under 70. Hudson parred his first seven holes before sinking an eagle at the 17th hole, a par-five at 545 yards. Hudson dropped his only bogey of the day at No. 18 and made the turn with a 35. POST-ROUND COMMENTS
Texas head coach John Fields
"It was a tough day. It was a day where we could have played really well. I don't feel like we played terrible golf out there, because this is such a great golf course. Bobby Hudson's 70 obviously helped us hang in there, which was extremely important for this team today. But, it was one of those days where it could have gone a little better, and it did not. The only thing we can be focused on is getting off to a good start tomorrow and playing good golf.
"I was just telling the team, 'If you hit fairways and greens out here, you're going to play well. If you try to play from the rough, or if you get angry and get outside of your concentration, this golf course will beat you.' This is a great golf course, and every hole has danger associated with it. If you don't bring it, you will get beat up. The course just asks you from the moment you hit the very first ball off of the tee to be focused and hit fairways. You have to hit greens and play your best."
