CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The University of Texas Soccer team fell 4-0 to the undefeated 12th-ranked Virginia Cavaliers Friday night at Klöckner Stadium in Charlottesville. The Longhorns suffered their first loss of the season and move to 4-1-1 while Virginia is now 5-0-1.
Virginia recorded the first goal of the match when senior Sinead Farrelly received a pass from junior Lauren Alwine right inside the upper right corner of the penalty box. Farrelly took a quick touch before firing it past keeper Alexa Gaul into the lower right corner of the net.
The Cavaliers scored again five minutes later when sophomore Caroline Miller sent one in from outside the left corner of the penalty box into the top right corner of the net for the score. Virginia earned its third goal of the match in the 76th minute when sophomore Julia Roberts fired in a rebounded shot from freshman Gloria Douglas to an open net for the score.
With seven seconds remaining, Virginia added another score after sophomore Kate Norbo pulled Gaul off her line before sending it the lower left corner of the net.
Texas posted two good looks in the first half from redshirt freshman Leah Fortune and sophomore Kristin Cummins but weren't able to connect. The Cavs outshot the Horns 17-3 while forcing keeper Gaul to make a career-high tying seven saves.
