COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Missouri (5-5, 3-4 Big 12) defeated No. 21/20 Texas (6-3, 3-3 Big 12) 17-5 Saturday afternoon at Missouri's Faurot Field.
Quarterback David Ash completed 13 of 29 passes for 158 yards, and quarterback Case McCoy also saw spot duty in the second half. Running back Jeremy Hills led a Texas running contingent hampered by injuries, as he carried 11 times for 35 yards. Running back D.J. Monroe carried seven times for 30 yards. Wide receiver Marquise Goodwin caught three passes for 57 yards, while wide receiver Mike Davis caught four balls for 31 yards.
Linebacker Emmanuel Acho totaled 12 tackles (seven solo) - including five for loss - and forced a fumble. Defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat notched 10 tackles (six solo) and a sack. Defensive end Alex Okafor added eight tackles and one sack.
Missouri drove deep into Texas territory on its first series, but Acho stripped the ball from the Tigers' L'Damian Washington. UT linebacker Jordan Hicks recovered the fumble at the Texas 12-yard line. The Horns then advanced into Missouri territory, as Ash found Goodwin for a 45-yard gain to the Missouri 14. Justin Tucker converted a 27-yard field goal moments later to stake Texas to a 3-0 lead with 8:32 remaining in the first quarter.
Missouri answered in the second quarter when quarterback James Franklin scored from two yards out, as the Tigers assumed a 7-3 lead with 8:46 left in the half. The Tigers extended their lead to 14-3 when Missouri running back Kendial Lawrence scored from 35 yards out with 4:43 remaining in the half.
Missouri's Matt Hoch blocked a Tucker punt following Texas' second series of the third quarter, and the Tigers recovered the ball at the UT one-yard line. However, the Horns kept the Tigers out of the end zone, as Missouri settled for a Trey Barrow field goal to extend its lead to 17-3 midway through the third quarter.
On Texas' next possession they were forced to punt, but Tucker downed the ball at the Missouri one-yard line helping to set up a scoring opportunity for the Horns. The Tigers picked up one first down, but three plays afterward, UT defensive back Leroy Scott blocked a Barrow punt in the end zone. The ball bounced out of the back of the end zone which resulted in a safety for Texas that cut the deficit to 17-5.
Missouri punted the ball away, and Texas, behind McCoy on his third series of the game, advanced into the Tigers' territory. The Horns moved to the Missouri 36, but Tucker missed wide left on a 53-yard field goal just prior to the end of the fourth quarter.
