Soccer advances to Big 12 Semifinal with 1-0 win over Texas Tech

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Texas Longhorns scored in the 11th minute and held on to register a 1-0 win over the Texas Tech Lady Raiders in quarterfinal action of the Big 12 Championship at Blossom Soccer Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
With the win, Texas improved to 11-7-1 on the season and advanced to Friday's semifinal round where the Longhorns will play the winner of Wednesday's quarterfinal match between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
In the 11th minute, Kylie Doniak served the ball into the goal area from the right corner of the penalty and found the head of a charging Kristin Cummins who redirected a rope into the side net of the left post four her fifth goal of the season.
The Longhorns were able to salt the clock away in the second half, fighting off a late flurry of shots by the Lady Raiders. In the second half, Tech held an 8-3 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
Alexa Gaul posted her seventh shutout of the season, making four saves on the afternoon. It marked Gaul's 30th career victory and 19th career shutout.
Doniak moved into seventh place on UT's all-time assist list with the 18th of her career.
It marked the first time Texas and Texas Tech ever met in the Big 12 Championship and the Longhorns improved to 12-4-2 all-time against the Red Raiders.
